The Roosters and Bulldogs meet on Saturday evening at Accor Stadium following disappointing losses for vastly different reasons. The Roosters allowed an emotionally charged (and injured) Dragons outfit to win in what once was a fortress for Easts at the SCG. On the other hand, Canterbury’s loss to Brisbane was no real shock, what alarmed fans of the kennel was the style in which they lost. After obtaining a four-point lead at half-time, the Bulldogs went on to concede five tries in 25 minutes to finish the game. The fallout has caused GM of Football Gus Gould to take charge of the video review and training in the hope of sparking the Bulldogs to a win.
On paper, Easts are by far in a way the better side, and this is reflected in the $1.20 head-to-head price. Clear form lines show that if the Roosters can beat the Broncos, they should also be able to beat the Bulldogs. However, the Roosters are battling issues in their attack as they adjust to their new spine, which will not be aided by the loss of superstar winger Daniel Tupou to suspension.
Canterbury, along with their mid-week rev up from one of the games greatest coaches and administrators, welcome back Jake Averillo and Brent Naden to the outside backs. I’m tipping an upset is on the cards, and if the Bulldogs are in fact able to pull off this win, it won’t be by a big margin. Canterbury is paying $6.25 to win by 1-12 points, which is incredible value for a club needing to improve sharply.
All reports are that no one was spared the wrath of Gus Gould at Canterbury, including marquee singing and superstar winger Josh Addo-Carr. While some rumours have circulated he could move to fullback and get his hands on the ball more, he will still be doing exactly that if he starts on the wing. Look for Addo-Carr to be amongst the action heavily on Saturday evening, as dangerous a threat as ever to score a try. He currently sits at $2.70 to score any time during the match, which is incredible considering he’s scored three in the last two weeks.
Both sides will be coming out of the blocks quickly to start this match and bully the opposition early and claim ascendancy early. This should see the first try scored inside the first eight minutes of the match with odds currently set at $2.15.
Key matchup: Luke Keary vs Kyle Flanagan
Both Luke Keary and Kyle Flanagan will find themselves under pressure for different reasons on Saturday evening. Keary has struggled so far in his game management as the halfback of the Sydney Roosters, he was clearly outplayed last week by Dragons half Ben Hunt and needs to lift to help this Roosters side score points. Flanagan is facing pressure as he was managed through the start of the 2022 NRL season by Bulldogs GM Gould, through reserve grade and into first grade, but is yet to deliver a win at the top level. Both of these halves will need to step up big time Saturday, taking the reins of their respective sides to steer them around the park and put themselves in winning positions.
