Round seven of the 2024 NRL Premiership continues in Sydney on Sunday with the Canterbury Bulldogs hosting the Newcastle Knights as both clubs look to find consistent winning form early in the season.

Betting markets have slightly favoured the Bulldogs during the week, with the Knights drifting from $1.75 favourites out to $1.85 with the top NRL bookmakers.

Both sides have failed to string two wins together in the last five weeks, and both lost tight games in round six. The Knights went down to the Roosters by two points last Thursday night, while the Doggies lost to the Storm by the same margin a day later.

Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo has shuffled the deck chairs, moving Connor Tracey to fullback, Jacob Kiraz to the wing, and captain Stephen Crichton to the centres. Samuel Hughes starts in the front row, Jake Turpin drops to the reserves with Josh Curran named to play lock, and Kurtis Morrin and Blake Taaffe both return via the bench.

Adam O’Brien has named an unchanged line-up as the Knights look for a repeat of last year’s 66-0 victory over the Dogs at Accor Stadium.

Bulldogs v Knights picks & predictions

The Knights have won four of their last five games against the Bulldogs. They have also won each of their last seven matches against lower-ranked sides on the NRL ladder, and they’ve covered the line in eight of their last nine away matches against Canterbury. The -1.5 handicap at $2 is incredibly short for such a talented Knights outfit.

While the Knights have had a slow start to the 2024 NRL season, they showed last year that the Bulldogs pose no threat to them in attack or defence. With captain Kalyn Ponga expected to be fully fit, the visitors should find plenty of scoring avenues. Expect a dominant attacking display from the Knights as they score 31-40 points at $6.75 with Neds.

Knights winger Greg Marzhew had a strong return to first grade against the Roosters with more running metres, post-contact metres and tackle breaks than any other game he’s played this season. Should that form continue, he will inevitably find the in-goal area, as he’s scored a try in each of his last six appearances away from home. At $2 with online bookies, there is good value for Marzhew to score a try at any time.
