Round 24 AFL preview: Western Bulldogs v GWS Giants
Two of the form teams in the AFL face off this Sunday as the Western Bulldogs host the GWS Giants in Ballarat for their final match of the 2024 home-and-away season.
While both teams enter round 24 in great shape, the Bulldogs are favourites at -192.31 with PlayUp. Despite seven wins in a row, the Giants are $2.60 outsiders to conquer Mars Stadium.
Last Sunday, it was a demolition job from the Bulldogs as they beat North Melbourne by 96 points at Marvel Stadium. Led by seven goals from key forward Sam Darcy, the Dogs secured their biggest win of the season and gained a critical percentage boost.
Sitting sixth on the AFL ladder, the Dogs are still not guaranteed a finals finish, as a loss this weekend could push them outside the eight if other results don’t go their way. They could also climb as high as fourth with a win, which would at least guarantee a home final.
Small forward Rhylee West (jaw) is the only confirmed change for the Doggies. Star ruckman Tim English has been named to return, however, while Caleb Poulter, Arthur Jones and Riley Garcia have been added to the extended squad.
The GWS Giants were also successful last round, beating Fremantle by nine points at home. In a high-scoring affair, both defences struggled, but in the end it was the Giants who narrowly got home.
As a result, the Giants have locked in a top-four spot. With a win and a Port Adelaide loss, they will secure a top-two spot and a pair of home finals.
There are four fresh faces for the Giants this week, as Callum Brown, Harvey Thomas, Xavier O’Halloran and Nick Haynes have been added to the extended squad. Small defender Lachie Ash is the only confirmed change, missing due to suspension.

Bulldogs v Giants R24 predictions
This looks set to be a thrilling affair between two premiership contenders. Although Luke Beveridge’s men have won seven of their last nine matches, the Giants came out on top when these sides played at this venue last year. They are on a seven-match winning streak, so get on the Giants to win by less than 40 points at +205 with leading AFL bookmakers.
Leading the AFL for total disposals, Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar has collected over 35 touches on eight occasions this season — including when these sides faced off in round 10. At +175 with Neds, the former Giant offers great value to gather 35 or more disposals.
Coming off a career-best performance against the Dockers, GWS small forward Brent Daniels is heading towards finals in excellent form. He has nine goals in his last five matches and is finding more of the footy than any other Giants forward. At $3.90 with top betting sites, Daniels offers excellent value to kick two or more goals.
