Round 14: Bulldogs v Eels match preview

Monday afternoon football returns for round 14 of the 2024 NRL premiership with the in-form Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs hosting a resurgent Parramatta Eels side at Accor Stadium.

The Bulldogs have won their last two matches against the Knights and Dragons, having suffered narrow losses to the Raiders and Panthers in the weeks prior. They currently sit 10th on the NRL ladder, just one win away from ascending into the top eight.

Meanwhile, the return of Mitchell Moses and Clint Gutherson for the Eels has given the club a much-needed boost on the field. Can they get their season back on track and play finals football in September?

Eels interim head coach Brad Arthur has been forced to make one change to his side with Bailey Simonsson (knee) ruled out through injury. Blaize Talagi has been named as his replacement, while Brendan Hands has been selected to replace Joey Lussick (dropped) and Queensland Maroon J’maine Hopgood has been named to start at lock with Joe Ofahengaue dropping back to the bench.

Bulldogs head coach Cameron Ciraldo has made several changes to his side. Josh Addo-Carr (hamstring) has been ruled out, Blake Wilson will start on the wing in his place, and Drew Hutchison has been dropped in favour of Matt Burton.

Canterbury Bulldogs v Parramatta Eels R14 predictions

Odds have fluctuated for both sides, given the inclusion of Burton to the Bulldogs side, but the Eels will be expected to start as favourites.

The Eels have won four of their last five matches against the Bulldogs and covered the line in each of those games, including their round-one clash earlier this year. However, the Bulldogs are a vastly different side, based on their performances against the Knights and Dragons. Bulldog Jacob Preston has had a brilliant return to the NRL, scoring four tries in his last three games, including a double last weekend when he played 80 minutes in the back row. The Bulldogs have shown improvement across their full 80-minute performance by taking the lead against the Knights at half-time last weekend before going on to win the match.
