Round 24: Bulldogs v Dolphins match preview

Saturday’s NRL action for round 24 kicks off in Bundaberg with a top-eight clash between the Dolphins and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Salter Oval.

The Bulldogs started this season in disappointing fashion, but they have slowly worked their way up the NRL ladder to sit in fifth spot, one win outside of third place. Having won five of their last six matches, including victories over the Sharks and Broncos, Canterbury are in red-hot form coming into this clash.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have been sliding down the ladder. After losing five of their last seven matches, the Queenslanders risk dropping out of finals contention with a loss here.

Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett has been forced to make one change following his side’s golden-point victory over the Warriors. Lachlan Hubner replaces Mark Nicholls (concussion) on the bench, with Trai Fuller named in jersey 18.

Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo has also made one alteration to his interchange, recalling Jaeman Salmon from a broken jaw in place of Lipoi Hopoi.

Bulldogs v Dolphins betting predictions

While the Bulldogs have a great record at home this season, that doesn’t really apply in Bundaberg. The Dolphins, meanwhile, have covered the line in each of their last four away matches as underdogs, and nine of their last 10 clashes have been decided by eight points or less. Canterbury should be good enough to win, but back Bennett’s men to keep the margin to 12 points or less at $2.95 with top NRL bookies.

Bulldogs captain Stephen Crichton is in career-best form, having recorded 35 tackle breaks and eight line breaks to go with eight tries this season. He scored a double a fortnight ago against the Raiders at Belmore, and coming off the back of the biting scandal against the Dragons last weekend, Crichton will be fired up and looks a good bet to score a try at $2.20 with major rugby league bookmakers.

On the other side of the field, Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth has returned to the type of form that helped him get the Broncos into the 2023 NRL Grand Final. After scoring a double last weekend against the Warriors, he is a great value play at $2.80 to cross over at some stage.
