Bulldogs finals hopes suffer another blow as Macrae goes down
Western Bulldogs’ midfielder Jack Macrae has been sidelined for the significant clash against Geelong on Saturday night due to a hamstring injury, with their hopes of playing finals suffering another blow.
The injury compounds the Bulldogs’ shock loss to West Coast on Sunday, with the skilful Macrae one of their prime-movers through the midfield.
The Bulldogs are now priced at $1.90 to defeat the Cats ($1.94) with online bookmakers, after losing some favour in the betting markets, following the shock Macrae news coming out of the kennel.
Luke Beveridge’s men must defeat the Cats and hope that Carlton can defeat GWS in the final match of the AFL home and away season on Sunday.
“We’re going to be missing Jack, he strained his hamstring on the weekend.” Beveridge said.
Macrae, who debuted for the Bulldogs during the 2013 AFL season, is one of the Bulldogs’ best players but has been below his top form this year, as his team used him in a variety of roles.
The Bulldogs are also sweating on the availability of Taylor Duryea, who will challenge one-match ban handed down for rough conduct by the match review officer.
Veteran Bulldog Josh Bruce, who played the bulk of his AFL career at St Kilda, has also announced his retirement this week after suffering another serious knee injury recently.
