Buffering’s brother fractures cannon bone

Buffering’s promising sibling No Annamossity has fractured his cannon bone and is set to have surgery.

Trainer Robert Heathcote said the three-year-old gelding suffered the injury in Saturday’s three-year-old handicap at Eagle Farm and was taken to a veterinary hospital on Monday.

“They’ll be putting some screws in him first thing in the morning,” Heathcote said.

Heathcote trained champion sprinter Buffering who finished his career in October after winning seven Group One races and more than $7 million in stakes.

The Eagle Farm trainer said it was tough to see such an exciting horse cut down by injury.

“That’s racing, you’ve got to wear the good with the bad,” Heathcote said.

No Annamossity’s dam Hussyanna is out of Action Annie, Buffering’s mother.

No Annamossity and Buffering are both by Mossman, while Heathcote also trains Downloading, a three-year-old Love Conquers All gelding who is out of Action Annie.

Heathcote said he was relieved No Annamossity did not have to be euthanised.

“It only takes one misstep when they’re running at very high speed,” he said.

No Annamossity broke through for his maiden victory at Eagle Farm in October and was beaten by a half head on Saturday at his sixth start.
