Round 25: Broncos v Eels preview

The Brisbane Broncos continue their fight for a finals spot this Friday night as they host the Parramatta Eels at Suncorp Stadium in round 25 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.

The Broncos sit in 10th spot on the NRL ladder after their round 24 bye, four points out of the top eight. To keep their finals hopes alive, Brisbane will need a win here before they take on the Dolphins and Storm in must-win matches.

The Eels are sitting in 16th place, just two points off the bottom of the ladder. The club will be desperate to find wins against the Broncos and Dragons in the coming fortnight to avoid a battle for the wooden spoon against the Wests Tigers in the final round.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters will be without superstar fullback Reece Walsh (wrist) after last week’s 24-point win over the Cowboys, with Tristan Sailor named in his place. Selwyn Cobbo returns on the wing, pushing Josiah Karapani back to the bench.

Eels interim coach Trent Barrett has made several changes following last week’s loss to the Roosters. Maika Sivo returns on the wing in place of Jake Tago, Shaun Lane replaces Wiremu Greig (suspended) in the front row, and Kelma Tuilagi will start in the second row. Makahesi Makatoa and Luca Moretti have been added to the interchange.

Broncos v Eels R25 predictions

The Broncos last stepped out in round 23, beating the Cowboys in Townsville by 24 points. They have won four of their last five matches against the Eels, and their last two wins have been by more than 13 points. With the Broncos fresh off the bye, back them to win by 13 points or more again at $2.25 odds with online bookmakers.

Selwyn Cobbo returns for the Broncos following a four-week absence. While the Queensland representative has scored only five tries this season, he’s crossed in each of his last six appearances against bottom-four sides. Lining up on a wing, look for Cobbo to return with a bang and score two tries or more at $2.80 with top NRL betting sites.

Blaize Talagi has been a revolution for the Eels since making his NRL debut in round three, but he’s recently inked a deal with the Penrith Panthers and will be determined to prove his worth to his new club. With tries in nine of his last 12 starting appearances, expect the 19-year-old back to add to his tally at $2.50 with rugby league bookies.
