Brisbane v St Kilda Rd 14 preview
Two underachieving sides will look to salvage their season on Friday night as Brisbane host St Kilda in round 14 of the 2024 AFL season.
The Lions enter this match as substantial favourites at $1.25 with Bet365, while the Saints are at $4.60. The handicap is set at 24.5 points.
Last Friday, Brisbane secured their fifth win of the season as they upset the Western Bulldogs by 43 points at Marvel Stadium. After a close first quarter, Chris Fagan’s side kicked away in the second, with a 33-point half-time lead setting up the comfortable victory. Midfielder Lachie Neale was best on ground with 38 disposals and two goals, while key forward Eric Hipwood starred with six goals.
Sitting 13th on the ladder, the Lions are trending in the right direction. They have lost just one of their last five matches, and top AFL bookmakers are giving the Lions odds of $2.75 to make the top eight.
After getting through the match unscathed, don’t be surprised if Brisbane remain unchanged this week.
The Saints also secured their fifth win of the season in round 13, beating the Gold Coast Suns by three points at Marvel Stadium. In a low-scoring affair, chances were rare, but after being handed a controversial free kick late in the match, key forward Max King was able to kick the winner.
With back-to-back wins, Ross Lyon’s men sit in 14th spot, just two games outside the top eight. However, there is no faith from top Australian bookmakers, with odds of $36 to make the finals.
Key defender Dougal Howard was subbed out early against the Suns with a hamstring injury, leaving Zaine Cordy as a likely replacement this week.

Brisbane v St Kilda R14 predictions
In an exciting battle of strategies, the Saints’ defensive gameplan comes up against the Lions’ explosive attack. While St Kilda have won their past two games, they have come against the 16th-placed West Coast and a Suns outfit that is winless on the road. With the Saints’ last win against the Lions at the Gabba coming back in 2015, Brisbane should be able to cover the handicap of -24.5 points at $1.91 with online bookmakers.
Kai Lohmann has emerged as a key part of the Brisbane forward line this season. Since round three, he has failed to kick a goal in just one game, and he has eight goals in his last three matches. With all the attention going to the likes of Daniher, Cameron and Hipwood, back Lohmann to kick two or more goals at $2.40 with top AFL betting sites.
St Kilda playmaker Jack Sinclair has returned to his best recently, collecting over 28 disposals in five of his last six weeks. In a game where the ball is expected to spend plenty of time in the Saints’ backline, the 29-year-old will have a major role to play. Sinclair collected 30 disposals in both meetings with the Lions last year, so back him to do it again at $2.15 with top AFL bookies.
