Brisbane v St Kilda AFL R24 preview
This Saturday afternoon, the St Kilda Saints head up to the Gabba to take on the Brisbane Lions in a match with major implications for both sides’ AFL finals prospects.
The Lions maintained their top-two aspirations last weekend as they beat the first-placed Collingwood Magpies at Marvel Stadium by 24 points. Following a tight first stanza, the Lions broke away and ended up winning every quarter in a great team performance that featured six multiple goalscorers.
Sitting in second spot on the AFL ladder, the Lions need to win to guarantee a top-two finish. There is also potential to win the minor premiership if the Magpies lose to the Essendon Bombers on Friday night.
The St Kilda Saints also found success last weekend, securing finals footy after beating the Geelong Cats by 33 points at Marvel Stadium. In one of their more convincing performances of the season, the Saints led at every break and could have pushed the margin even further had they kicked more accurately than their 12.16 tally.
Now sitting sixth on the ladder, the Saints will most likely need to win to guarantee a home final. If they do, and if other results fall their way, St Kilda could finish as high as fifth.
After being subbed out against the Pies due to a rib injury, Brisbane forward Callum Ah Chee is expected to be fine for this weekend. However, Lincoln McCarthy will miss due to a calf strain. Kai Lohmann is expected to return after showing solid form in the VFL.
Saints veteran Seb Ross suffered an injury in their match last weekend, which could open the door for the return of Jack Billings after he had 24 disposals in the VFL last weekend.

Brisbane v St Kilda AFL R24 betting strategy
Undefeated at home this season, the Lions look set to guarantee two home finals with another win at the Gabba this weekend. Known for playing an attacking brand of footy, the Lions will be looking to move the ball quickly through the middle in order to isolate their tall forwards inside 50.
Facing the best attack in the AFL, the Saints have the best defence in the AFL and are well equipped to limit Brisbane’s game style by sitting behind the ball. However, the Lions are the top clearance team in the AFL, while the Saints are the worst, which should result in many more opportunities for the Lions going forward. We like the Lions to secure a top-two finish with a win at $1.24 with Palmerbet.
Coming off an excellent four-goal performance last weekend, Brisbane small forward Charlie Cameron looks set to continue his good form against the Saints. With the quality of the Saints’ key defenders, look for the ball to come to ground often, where Cameron will be ready to pounce. Averaging 2.3 goals a game, expect Charlie to put in a big performance as he kicks three or more goals at $1.94 with top AFL bookmakers.
One of the Saints’ biggest improvers this season, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera has been an essential part of the team’s counter-attacking game. He is one of the league’s most consistent wingmen, collecting over 20 disposals in every game since round 10. With an average of 23.6 touches a game, we like Wanganeen-Milera to grab 25 or more this weekend at $2.20 odds.
Key matchup: Harris Andrews v Max King

One of the top key defenders in the AFL, Brisbane’s Harris Andrews is known for keeping his direct opponent quiet while also being able to come off and assist teammates. Last time these sides met, he kept Max King goalless, and he will be looking to do so again.
After coming back from injury in round 21, King has looked threatening for the Saints up forward, averaging 3.7 goals a game. If the Saints are a chance of an upset in this one, a big performance is needed from their gun forward.
