Round 22: Brisbane v GWS match preview

Round 22 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season continues this Saturday afternoon with a top-four clash between the Brisbane Lions and the GWS Giants at the Gabba.

Last Sunday, the Lions continued their stellar form with an 85-point win over St Kilda at Marvel Stadium. Winning every quarter, it was a dominant display from Chris Fagan’s side in both attack and defence.

With nine straight wins, it is no surprise that the Lions are $1.31 favourites for this clash. Sitting second on the ladder, they have also assumed outright premiership favouritism at $3.50 with leading AFL bookies.

Don’t expect many changes to Brisbane’s side this week as they look to stick with a winning formula. However, key forward Eric Hipwood is expected to return after being a late out with groin soreness against the Saints.

The Giants were also successful last Sunday, beating Hawthorn by two points in Canberra. Despite trailing by 28 points at three-quarter-time, GWS kicked seven goals in the final term to overrun the Hawks.

Adam Kingley’s men have now won five straight matches to work their way back into the top four. However, facing a tough trip up to the Gabba, they are clear outsiders at $3.75 with Bet365.

The Giants could have a couple of big inclusions, as star midfielders Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly are both tests to return from injury. After getting through unscathed against the Hawks, there are no forced changes.
