Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers match preview

The Brisbane Heat are set to host the Sydney Sixers at the GABBA on Sunday evening in what is a rematch of the Big Bash League decider from last season.

The home side will be looking to bounce back from an uncharacteristic defeat in Perth on Thursday, while the Sixers will be looking to continue their undefeated start to BBL14 having played some excellent T20 cricket so far.

Reigning champions, the Brisbane Heat, looked to have restricted the Scorchers to a somewhat manageable total, but their run chase never really flowed.

Spencer Johnson impressed on his return from injury, bagging 4/20 from his four overs in what was already a strong Heat bowling attack.

The Sydney Sixers come to Brisbane at the top of the table, with thanks to a breathtaking century from Englishman James Vince when chasing down 194 with relative ease at the SCG.

Throw in the early season form of Jackson Bird and Ben Dwarshius with the ball; this shapes as a real 50/50 contest under the lights at the GABBA.

Heat vs Sixers betting predictions

Despite being soundly beaten in Perth, a return home to the GABBA should see Brisbane pick up another valuable victory in their BBL title defence. The Heat’s top order of Colin Munro, Jimmy Pierson and the recently acquired Tom Banton have yet to make much of an impact, but it cannot be far away before they click. With Nathan McSweeney, Matt Renshaw and Max Bryant in the middle order to finish the innings off, the Heat have the firepower to set a formidable target against the Sixers, or the class to chase down whatever is set.

If the top-order struggles continue, then punters can count on Nathan McSweeney to show all his capabilities in posting a big score. He posted an unbeaten half-century on his return to the BBL from test duties against the Adelaide Strikers before being run out against Perth for just eight. With a return to the GABBA and the ability to score quickly against both pace and spin, the $2.30 on offer with top sports bookmakers for McSweeney to post a score of 30 or more shapes as a nice play.

Spencer Johnson is a genuine white-ball specialist, and he showed what he is capable upon return from a toe injury in Perth when picking up four wickets in his first hitout of this year’s BBL. Johnson has 75 wickets in 61 Twenty20 matches, and those numbers are only going to improve over the next 18-24 months. Whether it be with the new ball up front, or towards the backend of the innings, the $2.30 quote with BetOnline looks like a great bet for Johnson to take two or more poles.
