Brisbane, Fremantle dominate AFL All-Australian squad nominees

AFL All Australian Squad Announced

After 24 weeks of the 2024 AFL regular season, the 2024 All-Australian Selection Panel has released the final roster of 44 players who have been nominated for the prestigious title.

Brisbane and Fremantle have the majority of players in the 44-player AFL All-Australian Squad, with five players each competing for the 22 prestigious blazers available.

Cam Rayner from the Brisbane Lions is celebrating his nomination after a season, joining past All Australians Harris Andrews, Joe Daniher, Lachie Neale and Dayne Zorko in this year’s squad.

The Fremantle Dockers have nominees Jordan Clark and Hayden Young, alongside previous All Australians Luke Ryan, Caleb Serong, and Andrew Brayshaw.

The 18th-place Richmond Tigers and the 15th-place Adelaide Crows are the only two clubs not represented in this year’s squad.

Zach Merrett from Essendon, Jack Sinclair from St. Kilda, and Max Gawn from Melbourne are the only representatives for their clubs.

Notable exclusions are Josh Treacy from Fremantle, Ed Richards from the Western Bulldogs, and Tom Stewart from Geelong.

Among the 44 players in contention for selection, 19 players are aiming for their first career appearance on the team.

This group includes Jacob Weitering from Carlton and Adam Treloar from Western Bulldogs.

The +240 premiership favourites with the top AFL bookmakers, Sydney Swans, have four players included, such as defender Nick Blakey and midfield talents Chad Warner, Isaac Heeney, and Errol Gulden.

In the group of promising players, rising stars like Harry Sheezel from North Melbourne, Max Holmes from Geelong, Noah Anderson from Gold Coast and Jason Horne Francis from Port Adelaide have caught the eye of selectors for their debut recognition.

The complete team of 22 players will be announced during the AFL Awards Night this Thursday.
