Bring Me Roses races into Oaks favouritism
Bring Me Roses has been promoted to VRC Oaks favouritism after winning the Edward Manifold Stakes.
Bring Me Roses has broken her maiden in style and raced into VRC Oaks favouritism with victory in the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington.
The Tony McEvoy-trained Bring Me Roses was having her fourth career start in Saturday’s 1600m race for fillies and stormed home from the second half of the field to win by 2-1/4 lengths.
Bring Me Roses ($17) defeated Hiyam ($21) with another half neck to favourite Leather’n’lace ($2.70) third.
Bring Me Roses had placed in Listed races in Adelaide in her two previous starts and stepped up in her first Melbourne outing to confirm VRC Oaks plans.
Her win saw her firm from $17 to $5 for the 2500m Classic for fillies next month.

McEvoy wasn’t on course to see the win as he left the track earlier in the day due to illness.
His Melbourne stable foreman Michael Shepherdson said the plan would be to target the Oaks via the Wakeful Stakes.
“Even though she was a maiden she had good form and I know Tony was excited to get her to Flemington on the big track and just see what she can do,” Shepherdson said.
“Luke (Currie) gave her a really nice ride. He let her go through her gears, kept her balanced and she was very strong late.
“She’ll train on to the Wakeful and then into the Oaks. She’s got good condition on her so this will help bring her on too.”
