Bookie odds & multi tips for 2017 Wimbledon quarter finals

Wimbledon 2017 multi tips
MONDAY’s star-studded schedule at Wimbledon 2017 came with hype aplenty, but it did not disappoint.

Rafael Nadal might disagree with that assessment after falling to Gilles Muller in a five-hour epic that went to 15-13 in the fifth set.

Visibly frustrated during the post-match press conference, the Spaniard made no attempt to hide his displeasure at having to play on Court One while Roger Federer and Andy Murray took top billing on the main arena once more.

“I like playing more on Centre Court,” said Nadal.

“Someone has to play on Centre, and it’s almost always the same players here. This is the reality.

“Here, there are many of us who have won a lot in our careers, who have a lot of important history behind us.

“A tournament that wants to be as traditional and as special as Wimbledon has to distribute the number of matches scheduled on Centre Court and that not always the same people play there, and when there are doubts, the others are sent to other courts.”

Federer took full advantage of that supposed preferential treatment, dispatching his dangerous protege, Grigor Dimitrov, in straight sets.

That dominant performance has seen the Swiss superstar firm into +150 for the title at online bookmaker CrownBet.com.au.

Murray (+350) was likewise untroubled by the unseeded Benoit Paire as he joined Tomas Berdych, Marin Cilic, Sam Querrey and Milos Raonic in the final eight.

Novak Djokovic (+300) will aim to follow in their footsteps when he faces Adrian Mannarino on Tuesday.

The big story of the women’s draw is 20-year-old Jelena Ostapenko, who is on course for back-to-back Grand Slam triumphs after knocking out fourth seed Elina Svitolina.

Former finalist Garbine Muguruza has leaped into +400 outright favouritism after rallying from a set down to beat world number one Angelique Kerber, while Coco Vandeweghe has bolted into +450 after dumping out Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets.

Johanna Konta and Simona Halep share the third line at +500, just ahead of Venus Williams on +600.

The remaining ladies will light up the All England Club on Tuesday, with the fellas to follow on Wednesday as we look at the multi options for what promises to be a gripping quarter-final schedule.

Roger Federer (3) vs. Milos Raonic (6)

The odds seem a little lopsided when you remember that Raonic knocked Federer out of this very tournament only 12 months ago. But this is a different Roger: fully fit, firing on all cylinders and hungry for that eighth Wimbledon crown. As competitive as the big Canadian is on this surface, we just don’t see enough improvement in his all-round game to suggest he can stop the Fed Express at full steam.

Marin Cilic (7) vs. Gilles Muller (16)

One can only applaud Muller’s performance against Rafa in the round of 16. The question is whether the 34-year-old journeyman from Luxembourg will have anything left in the tank after nearly five hours on court. By comparison, Cilic needed only a fraction of that time to dismantle Roberto Bautista Agut. Expect the well-rested Croatian to triumph, as he did when these two met at the Queen’s Club last month.

Magdalena Rybarikova vs. Coco Vandeweghe (24)

Vandeweghe is on fire. In fact, she is yet to drop a set at this tourney. Her power overhead and off the turf was too much for Wozniacki, but how will she go against an unheralded opponent who beat her comfortably at Roland Garros last month? This is rarified air for 28-year-old Rybarikova, who has never before passed the third round of a Grand Slam, and we reckon it is about time this lady’s luck ran out.

Svetlana Kuznetsova (7) vs. Garbine Muguruza (14)

Kuznetsova is no stranger to these climes. The 32-year-old Russian has played in the final of each Slam at least once, although it is five years now since her triumph at the 2012 Australian Open. She has breezed through the early rounds, but now she faces a young, talented opponent fresh off a win over the top seed. Muguruza is well built for the grass of Wimbledon and should fancy her chances of progressing.

Jelena Ostapenko (13) vs. Venus Williams (10)

Can she really do it again? Ostapenko stunned the tennis world with her fairytale French Open win, but her efforts at the All England Club have shown it was no fluke. Standing in the way of a stunning double is a five-time former champion who is desperate to add one more Grand Slam to the mantle in the absence of her illustrious sister. We are taking the value here and backing another big scalp for Jelena.
