Bonneval fit and well: Murray Baker

Co-trainer Murray Baker says Bonneval remains on track for the Caulfield Cup and is fit and well.

Veteran New Zealand trainer Murray Baker is bemused by reports Bonneval has suffered an injury, saying the triple Group One winner is fit and well and on target for the Caulfield Cup.

The mare finished sixth as favourite in Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes and the stewards report said she had a small laceration on a hind leg and was lame in a foreleg.

Baker, who trains in partnership with Andrew Forsman, said Bonneval was fine a day later.

“… she pulled up in good shape and trotted up perfectly on Sunday morning,” Baker told NZ Racing Desk.

“There’s nothing amiss with her and she will be ready to run the race of her life.

“We will be keeping an eye on the weather however as there have been reports there might be some rain around in the last few days before the race.

“That would play into the hands of Jon Snow and wouldn’t hurt Bonneval’s chances either.”

Stablemate Jon Snow finished third behind Gailo Chop and Johannes Vermeer in the Caulfield Stakes.

Bonneval and Humidor are the $6.50 equal favourites for Saturday’s Caulfield Cup with Jon Snow a $15 chance.

“I thought they both went well with Bonneval becoming a victim of circumstances through her outside barrier draw,” Baker said.

“Once she drew wide we had to go back with her and she didn’t really get much of a crack at them in the run home.

“Jon Snow was very good and battled on strongly which is what we wanted to see.”
