Blues stun Geelong with 18-point win at the MCG
Carlton have breathed new life into its 2025 AFL season with a stirring 18-point upset win over Geelong at the MCG, leading from start to finish to secure a 14.10 (94) to 12.4 (76) victory in Round 7.
The Blues were desperate for a scalp after building momentum with wins over West Coast and North Melbourne, and they delivered with a four-quarter performance that frustrated a resilient Cats outfit.
Key forwards Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow starred, kicking three goals apiece, while McKay added a game-high 12 marks in a commanding display.
Carlton seized control in the second term, outscoring Geelong five goals to two to build an important halftime buffer. From there, every time the Cats threatened, the Blues found an answer.
Corey Durdin provided a highlight-reel moment with a spectacular leap over Sam De Koning to nail a crucial goal, injecting more energy into the surging Blues.
Geelong’s Jeremy Cameron (four goals) and new recruit Bailey Smith (29 disposals, nine tackles) kept the Cats in the contest, but they could never quite bridge the gap.
The only sour note for Carlton was the early loss of Zac Williams to a calf injury, with Cooper Lord activated as the substitute in the first quarter.
The win marks Carlton’s third in a row and sees them climb back into finals contention, while Geelong will look to regroup quickly ahead of a blockbuster clash against Collingwood.
Carlton vs Geelong final score
Carlton 14.10 (94)
Geelong 12.4 (76)
