Black Heart Bart Railway topweight
Black Heart Bart is the topweight for the Railway Stakes at Ascot in Perth.
Black Heart Bart is the topweight for the Group One Railway Stakes in Perth with 59kg, half a kilo more than Godolphin’s Doncaster Mile winner It’s Somewhat.
The 1600m-race at Ascot on Saturday week is the first of the Group One races at the West Australian summer carnival.
Formerly trained in Perth, Black Heart Bart is now with Darren Weir in Victoria and has won five Group One races in his care.
He is entered for two races at Sandown on Saturday.
Last year’s Railway winner Scales Of Justice has 57.5kg, 4.5kg more than he carried in 2016.
Scales Of Justice had a luckless two-start Melbourne spring campaign, running second to Redkirk Warrior in the Bobbie Lewis Quality after veering right late in the 1200m-race on the straight Flemington course.
After he finished midfield in the Group One Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes on October 1, trainer Lindsay Smith decided to take him home to Perth.
He finished third in a three-way photo in Saturday’s Group Two Lee Steere Stakes (1400m).
Scales Of Justice is the TAB’s early $6 favourite ahead of Black Heart Bart, It’s Somewhat and Supply And Demand at $8.
Ball Of Muscle and Malaguerra are withdrawals from the Group One Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) on November 25.
A winner down the straight last week at Flemington, the Joe Pride-trained Ball Of Muscle will have a short break while the Peter Gelagotis-trained Malaguerra will also be spelled after pulling up tender from Saturday’s Darley Classic.
Last year’s winner Takedown will also miss the race as he recovers from a cut leg which required treatment.
