Buffalo Bills v New York Jets preview
The New York Jets welcome the Buffalo Bills to Metlife Stadium this Tuesday (AEDT) in a divisional matchup to close out Week 6 of the NFL season.
Last weekend, the Bills suffered their second consecutive defeat, going down to the Texans by three points on the road. After opening the scoring with a field goal, Buffalo conceded the next 20 points. Their comeback efforts came up just short, as Houston kicked the match-winning field goal with no time to spare.
Sean McDermott’s team started the season in excellent form, going 3-0. However, games against top AFC contenders over the last two weeks have exposed weaknesses on both sides of the ball. Facing a struggling divisional rival this week, the Bills are paying -142.86 with Marantelli Bet to bounce back.
There are a few key concerns for the Bills offense, as running back James Cook (toe) and wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle) both missed practice. Defensive tackle Ed Oliver also sat out training as he deals with a hamstring injury.
The Jets suffered their second-straight loss as well in Week 5, going down to the Vikings by six points in London. Playing catchup after conceding the first 17 points of the game, New York tried to mount a comeback but fell just short. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was particularly disappointing with three interceptions.
As a result of the loss, the Jets fired coach Robert Saleh during the week, with Jeff Ulbrich named as the interim coach. There are major concerns around the offense, particularly in the passing game, so it is no surprise to see them entering this game as underdogs at +120 with top online bookmakers.
The Jets are fairly clear on the injury report, with cornerback Michael Carter II (hamstring) the only non-participant at training. Defensive tackle Leki Fotu is a chance of playing his first game of the season, as he has been taken off the injury reserve.
Bills v Jets NFL betting strategy
After firing Saleh during the week, it will take a lot for the Jets to turn their form around. The Bills have won six of the last eight matchups between these teams, and despite playing on the road, they should be far too strong as -142.86 favourites with top sports betting sites.
Given the Jets’ offensive struggles and the Bills’ above-average defense, expect this to be a low-scoring contest. Three of the last four Bills games have gone under the total points line, as their run-heavy offense tends to run down the clock. The Jets boast a top-10 defense, so back this game to go under 41 total points at -111.11 with leading online bookies.
With concerns around the health of Buffalo’s star running back, expect quarterback Josh Allen to take the redzone carries. His size and speed make him an excellent asset around the goal line, and he has rushed for over 40 yards in three matches this season. Back him to find the endzone at +120 with major sports bookmakers.
