Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder match preview

In the second Sydney Smash of the BBL|14 season, the Sixers and Thunder face off at the SCG with a top two spot on the line.

On Wednesday night, the Sixers continued their winning form in a last-over thriller in Adelaide against the Strikers. Chasing an imposing 183 to win, the Sixers were led in the chase by Steve Smith, who scored 52 off just 31 balls. Some late wickets made it a tense finish, but in the end the Sixers got there with three wickets and one ball to spare.

As a result, the Sixers have now jumped back on top of the ladder and hold the second-best odds for the tournament at +220 with leading BBL bookmakers. However, given the Thunder have a higher net run rate, they should drop down to third with a loss.

The Thunder were also successful during the week, beating the Perth Scorchers on Monday night by 61 runs. Batting first, Australian opener Sam Konstas led the way with 53 off 42, while a late cameo from Tom Andrews (37 off 13) lifted the score to 158. With the ball, the Thunder attack were far too good, as the Scorchers were bowled out for just 97 runs in 17.2 overs.

The win has secured a finals berth for the Thunder, who have odds of +320 to win the tournament with top cricket betting sites.

With 173 runs in his two games so far this tournament, Steve Smith has shown his quality at the top of the order for the Sixers. He has led the side on both occasions, including 121* when he last played at the SCG. As the obvious choice, back Smith to lead the Sixers once again at +200 with Marantelli Bet.

As the BBL’s leading runscorer this season, Thunder opener David Warner has been in excellent form. Although he missed out against the Scorchers, his previous four knocks included three 50s and a 49, leading the Thunder on each occasion. With a double chance on the line, back Warner to continue his strong form, scoring 50 or more runs at +275 with Marantelli Bet .
