Thunder vs Hurricanes match preview
The second-placed Sydney Thunder will welcome the third-placed Hobart Hurricanes at ENGIE Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday night.
With both teams sitting on eight points, either team can jump the Sydney Sixers with a win and take the top spot on the BBL14 table.
David Warner did everything he could to lead his Thunder to a victory, scoring 50 off 36 balls against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on Monday night; however, their bowling performance let them down. Matthew Renshaw (48*) and Max Bryant (72) led a massive comeback in the final 10 overs to secure an unlikely victory for the Heat.
Fortunately for the home team, they are expected to be boosted by the return of livewire opening batsman Sam Konstas, following the completion of the Australia vs India test series.
The Hobart Hurricanes won their fourth straight match against the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday night, thanks to Tim David’s 62* off 28 balls, leading his squad to a five-wicket victory. After being smashed by the Melbourne Renegades in their opening match, where they were bowled out for 74, the Hurricanes have found their form, and they can move to the top of the table if they extend their streak to five.
The Hurricanes started the season rated as a +500 chance to win the Big Bash League title; however, since winning four on the trot, their odds have shortened to +350 with PlayUp.
Thunder vs Hurricanes predictions
Although the Hurricanes are the team that enters this clash on a four-game win streak, the Thunder will be seeking to get back to winning ways after being defeated by the Brisbane Heat. The +100 on offer with Picklebet is a great price for the home team, who, with a win, will maintain their perfect home record.
With 149 runs to his name in BBL14, Sam Billings is coming off three straight scores of 15 or less after racking up scores of 29, 15*, and 72 in his first three matches. The Thunder will need someone to stand up and help David Warner with the bat, and Billings is a great option for 20+ runs (-102.04) with top cricket betting sites.
Chris Green has two three-wicket hauls so far in this Big Bash League, but he struggled against the Heat, getting smashed for 42 runs from his four overs and not taking a wicket. However, four of the five wickets that the Hurricanes lost in their previous game were to spinners, so +162 for Green to take 2+ wickets looks like a great play.
