Scorchers vs Renegades match preview
The Perth Scorchers continue their Big Bash League finals push this Tuesday night as they welcome the Hobart Hurricanes to Perth Stadium.
The Scorchers lost their first home game of the season last Friday as they went down to the Sydney Thunder in a last-ball thriller. Despite strong performances from Finn Allen (68 off 31), Cooper Connolly (43 off 31) and Lance Morris (3/22), the Scorchers couldn’t hold off the fast-finishing visitors, who hit a four off the final ball to win.
Perth now sit in third spot on the ladder with three wins from their six games. Top BBL bookmakers have given them the fourth best odds to win the tournament at +550.
In a major boost to the side, the Scorchers could regain Test trio Mitch Marsh, Josh Inglis and Jhye Richardson for this clash.
The Renegades are also coming off a loss, as they lost the Melbourne Derby on Saturday night with just two balls to spare. Batting first, strong knocks from Jacob Bethel (49 off 36) and Jonathan Wells (45 off 31) led the side to a competitive 168. However, besides fast bowler Gurinder Sandhu (3/29), the Gades struggled to take wickets, as the Stars got their just five wickets down.
This is a third consecutive loss for the Renegades, who have now slipped down to sixth in the standings. One positive is their strong net run rate, but they still have the second-worst odds to win the tournament at +1200 with PlayUp.
The Gades could also gain some added experience as off-spinner Nathan Lyon joins from the Test squad.
Scorchers vs Stars predictions
Given the way the Renegades have played over the past week, it is no surprise to see they are such underdogs for this match. The Scorchers are adding even more quality to their already star-studded lineup, while they also hold the home ground advantage. At -153.85 with Marantelli Bet , back Perth to get back to winning ways.
Leading from the front for the Scorchers this season, Jason Behrendorff is one of the best new ball bowlers in the BBL. He leads the side with 10 wickets this tournament, including multiple poles in four of his last five games. With the fragility of the Renegades top order, back Behrendorff to continue his excellent wicket taking form with two or more wickets at +110 with major cricket bookmakers.
In a side that has struggled with the bat throughout the tournament, Renegades wicket keeper Tim Seifert has stood out. The New Zealand international has scored 150 runs at an average of 30, including three knocks over 25. With the quality of the Scorchers attack expected to roll through the top order, back Seifert to lead the Gades with a composed knock at +350 with Marantelli Bet .
