The BBL is warming up with the Brisbane Heat hosting the Hobart Hurricanes this Friday night in what is a must-win match for both sides. A place in the finals is on the line, with the winner of the Thunder and Renegades on Thursday also having an impact on ladder positions.
The Heat will roll out an entirely different 11 to the side that got hammered by Ben McDermott and the Hurricanes in BBL 11 by eight wickets. The Hurricanes will be hoping their winning streak in Brisbane continues, having not been beaten at the Gabba since December 27, 2020.
The Heat’s confidence has grown enormously in the last week with wins on the road against the Strikers and Stars. They will be buoyed even more by their last-ball win over the Stars when Matt Renshaw rescued their run chase. Returning to their home ground, where they have won two of their three games this season, the Heat are great value to come out on top in a must-win match at $2.10 with Marantelli Bet.
Outside of his 46-run innings against the Strikers in Adelaide, Marnus Labuschagne has struggled with the bat since returning to the Heat side from international duties. Although averaging just shy of 20 runs with the bat for the Heat, he is clearly a far better player than that. Labuschagne has stood up in big occasions before for Australia and is more than capable of doing so for the Heat, so the $4 on offer for him to top score looks a good play.
Michael Neser still stands out as the Heat’s best bowler this season. Averaging just over 20 with the ball, he has one of the best records in the franchise’s history. Neser is also a player who excels against the best opposition on the biggest stages, like his four-wicket haul against the Stars at the MCG. Look for Neser to lead the Heat bowling attack again with three or more wickets ($4.25).
Key matchup: Michael Neser v Ben McDermott
The battle at the top of the order for the Hurricanes will be vastly different to their last match against the Heat. Last time out, McDermott belted 93 runs from 61 balls with 12 boundaries. The bowling attack he will face this Friday is vastly different, led by Neser. The Heat spearhead will most certainly be targetting the Hurricanes opener, who can win a game off his own bat. Should Neser dismiss McDermott cheaply, the Heat will expose what can be a frail Hurricanes middle order.
