Barrier problem for Tarzan at the Coast

Trainer Stuart Kendrick hopes drawing the outside barrier may not be the problem it appears for track specialist Tarzan at the Sunshine Coast.

Tarzan has a lot in the plus column as he chases his first stakes win in the Listed Queensland Lightning (1000m) on Saturday.

The gelding holds the 1000m-course record for the Sunshine Coast at a scorching 56.13 seconds.

He has had 10 starts over the 1000 at the track for six wins and two seconds.

All nine of his wins have been at 1000m and he has won three times on wet tracks.

The big problem for Tarzan is barrier 11 in a field of 11 speedsters.

Kendrick agreed it would usually be a major problem because Tarzan preferred to lead in his races.

“But to be positive we have had a lot of rain at Caloundra and the track will be wet,” he said.

“It is usually best to be out on the crest of the track and that’s where he is going to be, a few off the fence.”

“I don’t know if he has to lead these days. I trialled him the other day and he sat behind the pace and then was strong to the line in winning.”

Kendrick knows the track better than anyone and has his fifth straight Sunshine Coast trainers’ title wrapped up.
