Australian Open welcomes back Nick Kyrgios in 2025
Nick Kyrgios will compete at the Australian Open, with the former world No.19 returning to the ATP Tour for the first time in over two years this January.
Kyrgios has largely been out of action since suffering an injury after the 2022 US Open, playing just three matches since, courtesy of knee, elbow and ankle issues.
But now the year’s first Grand Slam has confirmed the Australian will be using his protected ranking to enter the tournament.
“Kyrgios is among six men and six women competing using protected rankings, setting the main-draw entry ranking cut-off for both fields at world No. 98,” the Australian Open said in a statement.
The 29-year-old is set to play at the Brisbane Open the week beforehand, where he will compete alongside the likes of Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov and Holger Rune.
Top Australian bookmakers are yet to release their tennis betting odds for the Brisbane Open, but are high on Kyrgios’ ahead of the Australian Open.
He sits on the eighth line of betting at $41, despite having been out of action for two years.
Neds has Jannik Sinner ($2.75), Carlos Alcaraz ($3.40) and Djokovic ($4) leading the betting.
Fellow Australian player Thanasi Kokkinakis believes tennis has missed his compatriot Nick Kyrgios.
“I think he’s been ready for a while, to get going,” Kokkinakis said.
“Just waiting for the right time, until he’s fully sure. Starting in Brisbane he’s going to bring a lot of atmosphere – I think the Australian public is going to love seeing him again.
“Hopefully he stays healthy and we can play doubles as well, at some point.
“I think tennis has missed him.
“He has a different personality and he’s a different animal out there a little bit, with how he acts and the energy that he brings.
“I think that tennis has missed it for a couple of years.”
