Australian Open Day 5 betting tips – Friday 12/2/2021
The third round of the 2021 Australian Open begins this Friday in Melbourne, where the world’s best players are gradually filtering through the competition.
With most of the unseeded players knocked out of the singles draws, we will start to see more competitive matchups and prime-time contests in the coming days.
Day five’s action includes only one Aussie but is filled with exciting international talent, including the outright favourites for the men’s and women’s titles.
Australian Open Day 5 men’s betting tips
Novak Djokovic $1.01 vs Taylor Fritz $13
There has never been a better performer in the men’s singles at the Australian Open, but we think Novak Djokovic will find this matchup tougher than his previous two. Taylor Fritz, the 27th seed, prefers the hardcourt and has made the third round in his last two Australian Opens. Fritz should push the Joker, as his American compatriot Frances Tiafoe did in the second round.
Taylor Fritz to win a set
Marton Fucsovics $5 vs Milos Raonic $1.14
Stan Wawrinka was set to face Milos Raonic in the third round, but Marton Fucsovics caused a big upset and advanced instead. Considering the Hungarian was good enough to make it this far, he should do enough win a set against Raonic, while the Canadian is likely to win the match.
Both players to win a set
Dominic Thiem $1.16 vs Nick Kyrgios $4.50
Nick Kyrgios advanced to the third round after his impressive come-from-behind victory over Ugo Humbert. Dominic Thiem was on top of his game in 2020, winning the US Open, reaching the Australian Open final, and advancing to the quarter finals at Roland Garros. Kyrgios looked sore during his last match and will struggle to overcome Thiem, but we think he will take one set in an honourable loss.
Dominic Thiem to win 3-1
Australian Open Day 5 women’s betting tips
Su-Wei Hsieh $1.50 vs Sara Errani $2.50
Although these two players aren’t the most famous names, they have advanced to the third round after upsetting some big opponents. Su-Wei Hsieh knocked out world no.8 Bianca Andreescu in straight sets, while Sara Errani completely smashed Venus Williams. Hsieh is the no.1 seeded women’s doubles player, but it looks like she is now putting more emphasis on her singles game, and we think that will pay off in this clash.

Ons Jabuer $5 vs Naomi Osaka $1.14
Japan’s Naomi Osaka has barely broken a sweat on her way to the third round, and we don’t think she will have any trouble with this matchup. Although Ons Jabuer is ranked no.30, Osaka is a different breed altogether and doesn’t look like dropping a set anytime soon.
Naomi Osaka to win 2-0
Anastasia Potapova $6 vs Serena Williams $1.11
We all know Serena Williams is one of the greatest women’s tennis players of all time, but at 39 years of age she has to slow down eventually. Russian teen Anastasia Potapova is enjoying her best Grand Slam yet, and although we do not think she will defeats Williams, this could be a much closer match than the online bookmakers predict.
Anastasia Potapova +5.5 games
