Australian Open 2025 odds shift after Nadal retirement

Tennis bookmakers have shortened Alexander Zverev’s 2025 Australian Open title odds, with a major reshuffle occurring after Rafael Nadal announced his retirement on Thursday.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion had held the fifth line of betting across most top sportsbooks, paying around $16 to win the year’s first major.

With news that Nadal will be retiring after the Davis Cup Final 8 in November, however, Zverev jumps into fifth spot in outright betting at Bet365.

The German is a two-time major finalist in Melbourne and now returns $13 to bag his maiden Grand Slam title in January.

In 2024, Zverev made the Australian Open semi-finals, blowing a two-set lead to lose 5-7, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-3 to Daniil Medvedev in four hours and 18 minutes.

He has gone on to have a strong season, winning the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome, making the final of the French Open, and peaking at world No.2 briefly.

The top four lines of Australian Open betting remain unchanged following Nadal’s retirement news, with 10-time champion Novak Djokovic leading the market at $2.75.

Hot on his heels at $3.50 apiece are Carlos Alcaraz and defending champ Jannik Sinner, who have split this year’s Grand Slams.

Three-time Australian Open finalist Medvedev is also in the mix at $8, while the market opens up significantly beyond the top five.
