ATP Montpellier: Rublev & Auger-Aliassime Cruise into Semi-Finals

Andrey Rublev

Top seeds Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Aliassime are on a collision course to meet in the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier, with each winning their quarter-finals on Friday.

Auger-Aliassime’s defeated No.8 seed Bu Yunchaokete 6-3, 6-4 to make the last four for the second year in a row, joining an elite group in the process.

The Canadian becomes one of three men born after 2000 to have reached 30 Tour-level semi-finals, with world No.1 Jannik Sinner (33) and No.3 Carlos Alcaraz (31) being the only others.

Auger-Aliassime also extends his impressive indoor hard-court record, the surface on which he has won five of his six titles.

This was his 51st win on indoor hard-courts since the beginning of 2022 – nine more than Holger Rune, who has the second-most wins on the surface over the past three seasons.

“My game is more disciplined,” said Auger-Aliassime after improving his overall record to 8-2 in 2025.

“I feel like last year I had some brilliant shots but also moments where I made a lot of mistakes.

“But now, two straight-sets wins [in Montpellier], I am more solid and I am happy with that because that’s the goal.

“Hopefully I go one more step and get to the finals on Sunday.”

The 24-year-old heads to the semi-finals, paying +120 at Marantelli Bet to win the tournament, slightly behind favourite Rublev, who returns +110 across most tennis betting sites.

Rublev picked up a retirement in his quarter-final match, advancing after just seven games when Nikoloz Basilashvili withdrew injured at 5-2.

The result puts Rublev through to his first semi-final since August 2024 as the Russian looks to rebuild after a first-round exit at this year’s Australian Open.

“I played many great matches with Niko,” Rublev said of his victory in Montpellier.

“He won many of them and I won some of them as well.

“He’s a really great player and a really nice person, so I hope that it’s nothing serious and that he will recover for the next week.”

Rublev will play qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic in the final four while Auger-Aliassime takes on Dutchman Jesper de Jong.

Both are heavy favourites to advance and contest the championship match on Sunday, with top bookmakers putting Rublev at -625 to win his semi-final and Auger-Aliassime at -277.78.
