Apprentices outed after race clash
Leading Toowoomba apprentices Baylee Nothdurft and Nick Keal have been suspended after clashing in a race in Toowoomba.
Stewards outed the pair after an inquiry into Friday’s Class Two Handicap (2150m) in which Nothdurft rode Prince Morpheus and Keal was on War Front.
Keal was found guilty of an improper action in that at the 300m he altered his whip action in an effort to strike either Nothdurft or Prince Morpheus.
He was suspended for three weeks starting on Sunday week.
Stewards also charged Nothdurft out of an earlier incident in the race.
Nothdurft was found guilty of improper riding in that approaching and passing the 1000m, he raised his elbow making contact with Keal.
Stewards found it placed unnecessary pressure on War Front forcing him off his rightful running to a position on the fence.
Nothdurft was suspended for four weeks to start at midnight on Saturday.
