Anthony, Ed Cummings to train separately
Edward Cummings and his father Anthony are to split their training partnership in the new year.
Father and son Anthony and Edward Cummings are to dissolve their training partnership in the new year.
Multiple Group One-winning trainer Anthony Cummings said in a statement the time had come for his son to branch out on his own which he will do from mid-January.
“I wish Edward the best of luck and fully support his decision to train independently,” Cummings said.
“He has been a keen student of the industry for many years, has shown himself to be a fine horseman and is undoubtedly up to the required standard.”
Edward Cummings is one of two of Anthony Cummings’ children and the late Bart Cummings’ grandchildren to take up training.
James Cummings worked for his father and grandfather before becoming the Australian trainer for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin operation.
Edward Cummings said he was looking forward to the challenge.
“I have the utmost respect for my father and all he has taught me and opportunities his guidance and trust have afforded me these past nine years,” he said.
“I began my career as a strapper working up to the position as foreman and to be able to say we have co-trained at the highest level makes me very happy.
“None of this would have been possible without the belief and support of our owners and staff and as such we owe them a debt of thanks for their continuing support.
“I am excited about what the future holds and look forward to testing myself.”
The trainers said they look forward to continuing the Cummings family legacy in an industry they are both passionate about.
