Andrew Adkins to ride Fickle Folly
Andrew Adkins will ride Fickle Folly (left) as she tries to extend her winning record.
With Robert Thompson committed to riding Big Money in Brisbane, Sue Grills is hoping a change of jockey will not lead to a change of fortune for Fickle Folly.
Veteran Thompson has guided the mare to victory at her two previous starts this preparation but has a long-standing commitment to Scone trainer Rod Northam.
Big Money races in the Keith Noud Quality Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday so Tamworth trainer Grills has called on Sydney’s reigning champion apprentice at Rosehill.
Adkins has never ridden the four-year-old, but Grills did not consider that as problem as Fickle Folly tries to extend her winning streak in a Benchmark 95 Handicap (1100m).
Thompson has bided his time before letting Fickle Folly down late to seal wins at Randwick and Tamworth and Adkins will be issued with the same instructions.
“We’ll wait and see what speed’ is in it but I don’t want her to lead if we can help it,” Grills said.
She said Fickle Folly was in good order for her final lead-up race for the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on December 3, the likely climax of her campaign.
“She’s done very well. She hasn’t missed a beat. I’m very happy with her,” Grills said.
