Almandin draws barrier 14 in Melbourne Cup
Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time has drawn barrier nine for trainer David Hayes in the Melbourne Cup.
Almandin will launch his bid for back-to-back Melbourne Cup wins from a double-digit barrier.
One of six horses owner Lloyd Williams will have in Tuesday’s race, Almandin will start from gate 14 after winning from barrier 17 last year.
Topweight Hartnell, third in 2018, has drawn barrier 12 while Gai Waterhouse’s Cismontane has stall 17 after sneaking into the field following his Lexus Stakes win on Saturday.
Almandin remained a $7 favourite after the draw ahead of Humidor ($9) and Marmelo ($9) who drew barriers 13 and 16 respectively.
Red Cardinal, prepared by 2014 Cup-winning trainer Andreas Wohler, has drawn the extreme outside of the 24 runners.
Almandin’s stablemate and race outsider Bondi Beach has drawn the rails with 2015 runner-up Max Dynamite in gate two.
Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time has drawn barrier nine while stablemate Ventura Storm has drawn an inside marble in stall six.
