AJ Brimson cleared of betting allegations after NRL inquiry
Gold Coast Titans star AJ Brimson has been cleared of any misconduct after an NRL inquiry found no evidence that he breached the league’s code of conduct by betting on rugby league games.
The investigation was prompted by a social media post showing a $10,100 win on Knight’s Choice winning the Melbourne Cup and an obscured bet related to rugby league, which raised questions about potential gambling violations.
Brimson clarified the wagers with one of the Australian bookmakers were made by his mother, who is dating someone named Knight, and not by him. The NRL’s integrity department reviewed the matter thoroughly and confirmed that there was no evidence of Brimson betting on NRL matches, which is strictly prohibited for players.
The Titans released a statement following the investigation, confirming Brimson’s compliance with league rules and stating,
“The Titans can confirm following all relevant enquiries relating to a social media post on AJ Brimson’s Instagram account, the NRL has found no evidence to indicate Brimson has breached the gambling provisions of the NRL Code of Conduct,” the statement read.
The case is now closed, allowing Brimson to continue his preparation for the upcoming season with the Titans, who are currently a $34 hope with Neds bookmaker to win their first NRL Grand Final.
