Richmond Tigers odds

Richmond Tigers AFL

After 37 years of pain, frustration and humiliation, the Richmond Football Club won the 2017 AFL Grand Final in incredible fashion, climbing from 13th on the ladder in 2016 to blitz the competition and taste the ultimate success. Richmond went onto claim the 2019 and 2020 premiership to cement themselves as one of the best teams of the modern generation.

At the start of 2023, many were questioning if the Richmond dynasty was coming to an end, and after finishing 13th, the short answer is yes.

After the club said goodbye to premiership hero Jack Riewoldt and club captain Trent Cotchin in 2023, the young talent has to take the reins and take the Tigers through their rebuild over the next few years.

Can Richmond bounce back to the top in 2024? Let’s take a look at their outright odds for the AFL season and find some value for punters.

Richmond players to watch in 2024

Josh Gibcus

Josh Gibcus

Born: 4/04/2003
Games: 18
Goals: 3
Position: Defender

Unfortunately for Josh Gibcus, his 2023 season was plagued with multiple hamstring injuries, which saw him miss the whole season. In 2022, Gibcus had an outstanding debut year, and he was awarded Richmond’s Best First Year Player at the club’s Best & Fairest awards at the end of the year. The club sent the youngster to Qatar to get a specialist opinion on his hamstring injuries, and he appears to have returned well and should be ready to go in round one.

Jacob Hopper

Jacob Hopper

Born: 6/02/1997
Games: 130
Goals: 49
Position: Midfielder

Jacob Hopper will begin his ninth season in the AFL and his second with Richmond, coming off a frustrating season in the yellow and black. The ex-GWS Giant was traded to the Tigers alongside Tim Tarranto; however, the 26-year-old couldn’t stay on the field and was plagued by calf and concussion issues that saw him play nine games in 2023. Hopper will be hoping to play every game in 2024, and if he does, it will be the fourth time in his career that he has played more than 20 games in a season.

Tom Lynch

Tom Lynch

Born: 31/10/1992
Games: 216
Goals: 456
Position: Forward

Tom Lynch will return from a foot injury in 2024 that saw him only play four matches during the 2023 season. Richmond looked like a completely different team without their key forward inside 50; however, with Jack Riewoldt now retired, the Tigers need him more than ever. Lynch kicked 63 goals in 2022 when he was sharing the forward line with Riewoldt, but with him gone, expect the midfield to look for him a lot more in 2024.
