AFL trade period wraps up with 11 players moving on final day

Australian Football League (AFL)

The 2024 AFL trade deadline came and went on Wednesday, with 11 players finding new clubs on the final day of the window.

Early in the day, it was a pair of Tigers who found new homes. Small forward Shai Bolton was traded alongside pick 14 to Fremantle, while dashing defender Daniel Rioli made his way up to the Gold Coast.

As a result, the Tigers now hold one of the strongest draft hands in AFL history, as they have eight picks inside the first 24 selections.

Nevertheless, after claiming the wooden spoon this year, Richmond are $151 outsiders in 2025 AFL Premiership betting at Bet365.

While it was a quiet afternoon, the trade period ramped up in a blockbuster final 20 minutes as clubs scrambled to get their deals over the line.

Adelaide added young forward James Peatling and a pair of future picks, sending the Giants back a future second-rounder.

North Melbourne added a trio of players, with Luke Parker and Jacob Konstanty joining from the Swans for pick 44, while Caleb Daniel moved from the Bulldogs for pick 25.

Hawthorn continued to bolster their defence as they secured Tom Barrass from the Eagles. At $8 with top AFL bookmakers, the Hawks are heavily favoured to compete for the premiership next season.

In return, West Coast added Hawthorn’s future picks from the first, second and third rounds, which will assist in their hunt for Sydney midfielder Chad Warner in 2025.
