AFL Round 20 betting tips, multi picks & predictions
It’s rivalry round in the AFL, and while there are some primetime fizzers in the offing, there are also a few mouthwatering derbies on the table.
The Giants’ clash with the Swans on Friday night jumps off the page, as does the QClash between Gold Coast and Brisbane on Saturday afternoon, while the Adelaide Showdown rarely disappoints.
There are punting opportunities all over the place in Round 20, and we have gone through all nine games and picked out the top AFL betting tips for the week.
Hawthorn v Carlton
Thursday, July 24 – 7:30pm AEST – Melbourne Cricket Ground
Carlton snapped their losing streak with a hard-fought win against Melbourne in Round 19, but can they match motors with the likes of Hawthorn? Sam Mitchell’s men are well in the hunt for a top-four spot, and they flexed their muscles with a 38-point win over Port Adelaide last Saturday. The Blues are still struggling to contain small forwards, so the price for Nick Watson to kick a couple looks overs.
Nick Watson 2+ goals
Essendon v Western Bulldogs
Friday, July 25 – 7:20pm AEST – Marvel Stadium
This has turned into a must-win game for the Western Bulldogs, but they should get the job done without breaking a sweat. Essendon are running out of troops and can do little more than get some games into their youngsters over the closing rounds of the AFL 2025 season. Bailey Dale had 49 touches when the Doggies smashed the Dons back in Round 10, so +125 for the half-back flanker to have 30 disposals looks like decent value.
Bailey Dale 30+ disposals
GWS Giants v Sydney
Friday, July 25 – 7:50pm AEST – ENGIE Stadium
The Giants have now won five on the bounce, kicking over 100 points in each of those games. Sydney have reached triple figures just once all season, so you can bet they will try to turn this into a war of attrition. The Swans have won five in a row against GWS, and with both teams bringing in decent form, there is some value about the outsiders snatching the points again.
Sydney by 1-39 points
Gold Coast v Brisbane
Saturday, July 26 – 1:20pm AEST – People First Stadium
Gold Coast need to make a statement after their disastrous display against Adelaide last Sunday, but they have consistently fallen short in the QClash. Brisbane have won four games in a row and continue to shorten in premiership betting with top online bookmakers. The Suns have to show something at home, so back them to keep the margin within 39 points.
Brisbane by 1-39 points
Fremantle v West Coast
Saturday, July 26 – 2:15pm AWST – Optus Stadium
Fremantle are buzzing after their one-point win over Collingwood in Round 19, and they must be viewing Saturday’s derby as a big opportunity to boost their percentage. A 49-point loss to Richmond underscored just how far off the pace West Coast still are, but Harley Reid’s late-season form is a plus. Back the young gun for 25 or more disposals at good odds with BetOnline.
Harley Reid 25+ disposals
North Melbourne v Geelong
Saturday, July 26 – 7:35pm AEST – Marvel Stadium
North Melbourne are limping towards the end of the 2025 AFL season, and it won’t get any easier for them this week. Geelong have been up and down over the past few rounds and will be eager to start stringing wins together on the run into finals. Oliver Dempsey booted three goals when these teams met last year, and there’s some value in backing the up-and-coming Cat to kick a couple in this one.
Oliver Dempsey 2+ goals
Adelaide v Port Adelaide
Saturday, July 26 – 7:40pm ACST – Adelaide Oval
Never rule out the underdog in the Showdown. Just look at recent history: Port Adelaide finished top three on the AFL ladder in 2023 and 2024, yet the Crows have won four of their past five meetings. That’s a danger sign for high-flying Adelaide, and with footy bookies offering as much as +435 on the Power, you might as well throw a couple of bucks on Ken Hinkley’s mob.
Port Adelaide to win
Richmond v Collingwood
Sunday, July 27 – 2:10pm AEST – Melbourne Cricket Ground
While Collingwood are coming off back-to-back losses and Richmond have won two on the bounce, the Tigers are fighting well out of their weight class here. In such a lopsided matchup, you may have to dig into the exotic markets to find some value. Richmond midfielder Tim Taranto has booted four goals in the past two weeks, and his anytime goalkicker odds at Picklebet are worth a play.

St Kilda v Melbourne
Sunday, July 27 – 3:15pm AEST – Marvel Stadium
Both of these teams have been dealing in honourable losses in the back half of the year, and their AFL Round 20 betting odds highlight just how hard it is to split them on form. However, with Steven May joining Jake Lever on the sidelines, the Demons’ defence looks mighty thin — and that could be the difference. Take the Saints to snap their losing streak.
St Kilda by 1-39 points
