AFL Round 13 preview, betting news & premiership odds
The AFL successfully manoeuvred the round 12 fixture away from the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria, but the potential for another lockdown extension means we could see more venue-shuffling in the coming weeks. Round 13 of the 2021 AFL Premiership season has already been altered, so we can crack on with all the matchups and the latest odds for this week’s footy action.
AFL Round 13 betting odds & matchups
Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats
This clash between the Port Adelaide Power and Geelong Cats is not yet solidified in the round 13 fixture, as the AFL is still working through when and where they should play. The match was originally scheduled for Thursday night at the Adelaide Oval, which could be changed to allow the Cats to fly in and out of South Australia on the same day. Regardless of whether the match is altered or not, strap in for a nail-biting contest between these two premiership contenders.
Sydney Swans $1.14 vs Hawthorn Hawks $5.80
The Sydney Swans escaped with an important victory over St Kilda in round 12, while the young Hawks freshened up during their bye-week. John Longmire’s men got through their nine-point win unscathed, which means they could enter this week’s clash unchanged. The Hawks could bring back an array of star players including Jaeger O’Meara, Jack Gunston and Will Day.
Fremantle Dockers $1.54 vs Gold Coast Suns $2.49
Fremantle’s injury woes worsened during a close encounter with the Western Bulldogs, as Nat Fyfe (shoulder), Griffin Logue (concussion), Sean Darcy (hamstring), Brennan Cox (hamstring) and Mitch Crowden (AC joint) all went down on Sunday. This is the perfect opportunity for the Gold Coast Suns to travel to Optus Stadium and steal a victory, with young gun Matt Rowell a chance to return from injury.
St Kilda Saints $1.85 vs Adelaide Crows $2
St Kilda and the Adelaide Crows are set for a trip north to Cazaly Stadium in Cairns this Saturday, but two important senior Saints will not join their side on the plane. Tim Membrey and Seb Ross have made the decision to head home to Melbourne and join their young families, which comes at the same time as injury strikes at Moorabbin. With Mason Wood (hamstring) and Jarryn Geary (shoulder) sidelined, the Saints must make four changes. The Crows could snap out of their slump this weekend.
North Melbourne Kangaroos $3.52 vs GWS Giants $1.30
North Melbourne and the Greater Western Sydney Giants have been given the all-clear to play at Blundstone Arena this Sunday, and it could be a danger game for GWS. The Kangaroos have been more competitive in the last month, while their younger players will be fresh off the bye. The week off also came at an optimal time for the injury-riddled Giants, who could welcome back up to three players depending on how well they train during the week. Do not rule out the Roos in this contest, as they may cause a big upset on their home away from home.
West Coast Eagles $2.23 vs Richmond Tigers $1.66
Just when pundits and online bookmakers started to rule out the Eagles, they performed well against the odds to beat Carlton in Sydney despite making six changes. The Eagles will be tough to beat on their home deck as per usual, but the Tigers were brilliant against the Bombers last Saturday and could blast their way back into premiership contention with another win here.
Melbourne Demons $1.18 vs Collingwood Magpies $4.90
The traditional Queen’s Birthday clash between Melbourne and Collingwood will take place at the SCG this year. The Dees have been the best team in the competition to this point, but we think the Pies will make them earn this week’s victory despite the lopsided odds. Nathan Buckley’s men are coming off an inspiring victory in Adelaide last week and historically travel well, while they have won four of the last five matches against the Demons.

AFL 2021 Premiership odds – Round 13
The biggest shift in the AFL Premiership betting market has been the leap from Richmond, who move in to $5.50 after knocking off the Bombers by 39 points last week. The Dees and Lions both hold firm despite the former beating the latter on Friday, while the Swans and Eagles now sit at $21 after recording wins of their own. The Dockers ($201) have blown out completely due to a horrendous run of injuries.
