AFL Round 11 preview, match betting & premiership odds
The 2021 AFL Premiership season continues to surprise us week by week after another stunning round of close calls, upsets and big wins. Round 11 may not have the most amazing batch of games, but it does contain a massive top-of-the-table clash between two premiership contenders. Here are all the latest odds and matchups for this week of AFL action and an update on the outright market, with odds courtesy of Sportsbet.com.au.
AFL Round 11 betting odds & matchups
Western Bulldogs $1.65 vs Melbourne Demons $2.25
It is first against second this Friday night when the Western Bulldogs host the Melbourne Demons at Marvel Stadium. Both teams are 9-1 heading into the clash, as the Dees spoiled their perfect record against the Crows last weekend. Marcus Bontempelli and Christian Petracca are two of the top contenders in the Brownlow Medal betting, while Jack Macrae and Clayton Oliver are not far behind them. With star power all across the ground, you cannot miss the opening match of round 11.
Collingwood Magpies $4.75 vs Geelong Cats $1.19
Saturday’s AFL action begins with a very interesting clash between the Collingwood Magpies and Geelong Cats. Nathan Buckley’s men could not hold their lead against the Power last week, but they played a very competitive brand of football. Will the Cats lower their guard at the MCG, or will this be another easy win for the premiership contenders?
Brisbane Lions $1.20 vs GWS Giants $4.60
The Brisbane Lions have won their last six matches and are marching their way up the AFL ladder, while the GWS Giants have also overtaken Richmond and jumped inside the top eight. Unfortunately for Leon Cameron and the Giants, this match is scheduled at the Gabba, where the Lions are short-priced favourites to win their seventh consecutive game.
St Kilda Saints $1.20 vs North Melbourne Kangaroos $4.60
Brett Ratten said he will make changes to the St Kilda squad that went down by 111 points to the Bulldogs, but will that be enough to beat North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium? The Kangaroos were also embarrassed in round 10 when going down by 72 points against Essendon, but there is hope for the battling squad against the out-of-form Saints.
West Coast Eagles $1.18 vs Essendon Bombers $5.10
Travelling to Optus Stadium to take on the West Coast Eagles is one of the toughest tasks in the AFL, as they have won all five matches in Perth this season. The Bombers will be on the road this week, and online bookmakers do not like their chances. The Dons sit one win outside the top eight and are playing better than expected this year.
Gold Coast Suns $1.46 vs Hawthorn Hawks $2.75
With three straight losses and a 3-7 record, Stuart Dew’s Suns desperately need to get back in the winners’ circle this weekend. The Hawks are clearly headed towards the bottom of the ladder, and Alastair Clarkson is more than happy to expose his younger players. The Suns played well in the first half against the Cats last week, but they will want to put together four quarters this week at Metricon Stadium.
Richmond Tigers $1.17 vs Adelaide Crows $5.10
The Tigers cannot lower their guard against this Sunday against the Adelaide Crows, who dealt the Demons their first loss of the season in round 10. Returning to the MCG, Richmond is expected to win this contest and reclaim its spot inside the top eight, but Matthew Nicks and the Crows will be plotting their second major upset in as many weeks.
Sydney Swans $1.40 vs Carlton Blues $2.96
The Swans’ position inside the top eight is starting to be questioned after winning just two of their last five games. The Carlton Blues are massive outsiders to make the finals, yet they sit just one win and percentage outside the top eight. The Swans have been strong at home this season, meaning the Blues will have to bring their A-game to knock them off.
Port Adelaide Power $1.17 vs Fremantle Dockers $5.10
Ken Hinkley was not impressed with the Power’s one-point win over the Magpies last week, but they should get their rhythm back when they return to the Adelaide Oval this Sunday. The Dockers have not been consistent on the road this season, which is why AFL bookies are majorly favouring Port Adelaide this Sunday. A top four spot is on offer for the Power here, while the Dockers are playing for a place in the top eight.
AFL 2021 Premiership betting update
The Brisbane Lions have come in to $5.50 in Sportsbet’s AFL Premiership betting market after knocking off Richmond by 28 points, with the reigning premiers moving out to $7. The Demons’ first loss of the season against the Crows only saw them slip to $5.50, but it has given the Bulldogs outright favouritism at $5. Despite numerous injuries to key players, GWS has overtaken Sydney and jumped to $31, with the Swans falling from $26 to $36 following their loss to the Dockers.
