AFL Finals Week 1 betting preview

The 2025 AFL finals series begins this week with four exciting matchups across the country.

We kick off proceedings on Thursday with a blockbuster clash between Adelaide and Collingwood, before heading to the MCG on Friday as Geelong host Brisbane.

An exciting double-header awaits on Saturday as GWS host Hawthorn and Fremantle welcome Gold Coast in a pair of knockout clashes.

Here are our top betting tips for every game in AFL Finals Week 1.

Adelaide vs Collingwood

Thursday, September 4 – 7:10pm ACST – Adelaide Oval

No one has a better form line than Adelaide, who have won their last nine games. On the other hand, Collingwood have limped into the top four, with just two wins in their last seven. Adelaide’s forward line should be far too good for the dysfunctional Pies defence as the Crows book their place in a preliminary final.

Geelong vs Brisbane

Friday, September 5 – 7:40pm AEST – MCG

Top AFL betting sites have these two sides as the favourites for the flag, making this match arguably the most unpredictable of the weekend. Geelong have won their last six matches, but Brisbane have claimed the points in each of the last three meetings between the sides. Brisbane’s Cam Rayner has kicked multiple goals in four of his last five games and offers great value to do so again.

GWS vs Hawthorn

Saturday, September 6 – 3:15pm AEST – ENGIE Stadium

Recent form says this will be close, as each of the past five matchups between these sides has been decided by 15 points or less. However, GWS have a record of 7-1 at ENGIE stadium this season, while Hawthorn have gone 5-5 when travelling interstate. At $2.35 with major Australian bookmakers, back the Giants to win by less than 40 points.

Fremantle vs Gold Coast

Saturday, September 6 – 5:35pm AWST – Optus Stadium

Facing a tough trip to Perth, the Suns enter their first-ever final as the biggest underdogs of the weekend. The Dockers won six of their last seven games to sneak into the top eight, capped off by a dominant performance against the Dogs in Round 24. While the Suns have all the quality to push Fremantle the bright lights of finals may be too much for a team with many players who have yet to taste finals footy.
