Western Bulldogs v Geelong Cats match preview
This Saturday night, the Geelong Cats travel up to Marvel Stadium to take on the Western Bulldogs in what presents as one of the matches of the round. Both teams come into this clash off a loss and will be looking to bounce back and show their finals credentials.
Last weekend, the Bulldogs travelled up to Cairns to face the Gold Coast Suns. A match where the Suns led for most of the night, a late fourth-quarter comeback from the Bulldogs threatened to steal victory at the death, but they fell just short in the end as the Suns held on to win by seven points.
This loss halted a five-match winning streak for the Bulldogs, and although this loss won’t define their season, it will be rued as a missed opportunity to enter the top four.
Geelong hosted the GWS Giants last Saturday, putting in a disappointing effort against one of the weaker sides in the competition. After leading for most of the game, the Cats got within a kick during the last quarter, but a late goal from the Giants ensured a seven-point win for the visitors.
The Cats now sit in 10th on the ladder with a losing record. Injuries have hit their midfield, and inexperienced replacements have struggled to keep up with the opposition around the ground.
This weekend, the midfield battle will be crucial. One of the best contested teams in the competition, the Western Bulldogs will be looking to make the most of their advantage against the underperforming Cats.
The Bulldogs also have the ruck advantage through Tim English — one of the best in the competition, known for his work around the ground. Expect Mark Blicavs to spend a lot of time in the ruck in an attempt to match the athleticism of English in a way that regular Geelong ruckman Jon Ceglar cannot.

Bulldogs v Cats betting strategy
Geelong have won the last four meetings between these two sides, but their respective form is going in opposite directions. At home the Bulldogs should be too strong for the Cats, whose premiership defence is falling to pieces. Back the Bulldogs to win this one at $1.62 with Marantelli Bet.
The last five times these two sides have played each other, the combined score has gone under the total points line. The Bulldogs average only 70 points per game at Marvel this year, despite winning three out of their four matches there. Expect a similar style of match in this one, going under 165.5 total match points ($1.88).
While the Bulldogs midfield should get plenty of the footy on the weekend, there are so many midfielders that it is hard to pick which ones will collect the most. As such, we look to the Dogs defence and their premier ball-user, Bailey Dale. Across the last three weeks, Dale averages over 30 disposals a game, so it is easy to see him grabbing 25 or more touches ($1.77) against an out-of-sorts Geelong side.

Liam Jones has a battle on his hands this weekend as he takes on arguably the best forward in the AFL, Jeremy Cameron. Not only is Cameron a worry inside 50, but he also regularly works up the ground clearing space for his teammates. Jones works best under the ball as he uses his strength to out-position his opponents. If Cameron is able to create space between the two, his pace on the lead will be too much for Jones to handle. For Geelong to win this game, Cameron will need to be a key part of it.
