Adelaide Crows v West Coast round 11 preview

In the final match of round 11, the West Coast Eagles head across to Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon looking for consecutive victories as they face the Adelaide Crows.

In front of their home crowd, the Crows enter this match as strong favourites with Unibet at -454.55, while the Eagles are at +360 at PlayUp. The line is set at 27.5 points.

Last weekend, the Crows fell just short of an impressive upset as they lost to the Collingwood Magpies by just four points. Trailing by as much as 30 points in the second quarter, Matthew Nicks’ side showed great resilience to claw their way back, even if they were unable to get the four points.

Unbeaten in their previous three weeks before the loss, the Crows are in the midst of a mid-season resurgence. Sitting 10 points outside the top eight, they may struggle to push for a finals spot, but they will certainly scare a few contenders this season.

Importantly, Adelaide will be without star Izak Rankine for the next three weeks after he hurt his hamstring against the Pies. With Elliott Himmelberg (cheekbone), Will Hamill and Ned McHenry also confirmed changes.

Key position pair James Borlase and Chris Burgess return at either end of the ground, while Harry Schoenberg and Sam Berry are expected to spend time around the ball.

The West Coast Eagles put together their most impressive win of the season last Sunday, as they beat the Melbourne Demons by 35 points. Despite never trailing, they couldn’t shake the Demons for the first three quarters, until they kicked four goals to one in the final term, running away with the match.

With their third win of the season, the Eagles are far exceeding pre-season expectations of the wooden spoon. With a group of young midfielders led by number one draft pick Harley Reid, expect further improvements as the season goes on.

Just one change for the Eagles this week as veteran Elliot Yeo returns from a groin injury in place of Luke Edwards.

Adelaide v West Coast predictions

Despite the Eagles showing vast improvements from the side that came last in 2023, they are still yet to win a match on the road, with their smallest defeat in opposition territory, a 37-point loss to the Gold Coast Suns. The Crows have been solid over the last month and have also won their past four against the Eagles. As such, back the Crows to cover the handicap of -27.5 at with top AFL bookmakers.

Playing across half-back, Adelaide’s Mitch Hinge is having a career-best start to the season. Averaging 22.1 disposals per game, the 25-year-old has collected 25 or more disposals in four of the past six weeks. Fresh off an excellent performance against the Magpies, back Hinge to collect 25 or more disposals at +110 with Neds.

Currently in a four-way tie at the top of the Coleman Medal standings, Eagles forward Jake Waterman has become one of the most improved players in the AFL. Averaging 3.2 goals per game, the 26-year-old has kicked multiple goals in all but two games this season. With 23 goals in his past five matches, look for Waterman to continue his hot start with three or more goals at +155 with top online bookmakers.
