Adelaide v Richmond R13 preview

Round 13 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season kicks off at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night as the Crows look to return to winning ways against a depleted Richmond.

Adelaide enter this clash as heavy favourites at $1.14 with Unibet, while the Tigers are rank outsiders at $6.40 with BoomBet. The line is set at 35.5 points.

Last Saturday, Adelaide were disappointing as they fell to Hawthorn by 27 points at the MCG. With their finals hopes hanging by a thread, Matthew Nicks’ men kicked just two goals in the first half and couldn’t reel in the spirited Hawks.

With four wins and a draw from 12 games, Adelaide look set to miss finals for the seventh consecutive year. If they are going to turn their season around, it starts with a percentage-boosting win this week.

Unfortunately for the Crows, veteran midfielder Matt Crouch suffered a season-ending shoulder injury against the Hawks, while key forward Taylor Walker is also in doubt after suffering a back injury. Sam Berry is likely to come into the starting 22, while the 202cm Kieran Strachan could replace Walker in the forward line.

Richmond’s losing streak continued last Saturday as they fell to Geelong by 30 points. In a strong first-half showing, the Tigers led by as much as 29 points in the second term. However, they ran out of steam, conceding 12 of the last 15 goals and failing to kick a goal in the last quarter.

Sitting in 17th with just one win this season, many of the Tigers’ problems can be blamed on their extensive injuries. Winger Marlion Pickett (calf) and key forward Mykelti Lefau (knee) were both injured against the Cats, extending the casualty list to 15 players.

Adelaide v Richmond R13 predictions

Last time the Crows played at Adelaide Oval, they beat West Coast by 99 points. With the Tigers in even worse form than the Eagles, it is hard to see anything but another thumping victory for Adelaide. Unbeaten in their last three at the venue, back the Crows to cover the line of -35.5 points at $1.91 with top AFL betting sites.

With Walker going down injured at half-time last Saturday, it was Chris Burgess who played as the deepest forward for the Crows in the second half, kicking a career-high three goals. With Adelaide expected to have plenty of opportunities inside 50, back the former Sun for three or more goals again at $2.90 with top Australian bookies.

Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson is having a great season, averaging 25.8 disposals. Coming off a quiet game against the Hawks, expect the former Swan to put in a big performance in a must-win game. With Crouch missing from the midfield, Dawson should spend even more time in the middle, collecting 30 or more disposals at $2.50 with top online bookmakers.
