Adelaide v Port Adelaide AFL match preview
This Saturday night brings us the second ‘Showdown’ of the 2023 AFL Premiership season as the Crows face the Power at Adelaide Oval.
The Adelaide Crows travelled to Melbourne last weekend to take on the Demons at the MCG, losing a tight contest by four points. Trailing by 32 points in the third quarter, the Crows showed resilience as they fought back, falling just short in the end.
Although many positives can be gathered from the performance, the Crows’ slide down the ladder continues. Losing four of their last five games, they now sit 13th on the ladder, six points outside the top eight.
The Port Adelaide Power faced Collingwood last weekend, going down in a thrilling top-of-the-table contest by two points. A close match throughout, the Power broke away at three-quarter time to hold a 17-point lead. However, they fell away late, conceding six goals to three in the last quarter.
After back-to-back losses, the Power’s position in the top two now comes under threat. With their poor percentage in comparison to the sides around them, Port need to quickly regain their form if they wish to hold out the likes of Brisbane and Melbourne.
The Crows lost key defender Nick Murray (knee) and small forward Izak Rankine (hamstring) to injuries in the loss to the Demons. Star midfielder Rory Laird is expected to return from a shoulder issue, while young defender Max Michalanney should return after being managed last weekend.
Although Port Adelaide got through their match unscathed, small forward Willie Rioli will miss this weekend due to suspension. Darcy Byrne-Jones is expected to take his place after returning from the concussion protocol.

Adelaide v Port Adelaide betting strategy
Last time these two sides met was in round three, where the Crows won comfortably by 31 points. Since that game, the form of both sides has changed drastically; the Power proceeded to win 13 straight games, whereas the Crows now sit in 13th place with their season hanging by a thread.
After falling just short against the best team in the AFL last weekend, the Power have shown their quality and come in to this one as rightful $1.45 favourites with Palmerbet. Their strong forward line should prove too much for the Adelaide defence.
Aligning with the rise of the Power this season, Dan Houston has been one of the most improved players in the AFL this season. Playing off half-back, Houston gets a lot of uncontested footy as the Power chip it around the ground. Collecting 25 or more disposals in four of his past five weeks, he shows great value to do it again at $1.95 with top AFL bookmakers.
With these teams sitting second and third for points scored this season, expect another high-scoring match on Saturday night. In a battle of high-powered forward lines, the Power’s big three of Charlie Dixon, Jeremy Finlayson and Todd Marshall come up against the Crows pairing of Darcy Fogarty and Taylor Walker. The last three meetings between these two sides have gone above the total points line, so we are backing over 176.5 total match points at $1.88.

Having a breakout season in the Adelaide midfield, Jordan Dawson is involved in nearly all the Crows’ ball-movement going forward. The newly appointed captain is the top ball-winner for the Crows while also being an elite kick going inside 50. He famously kicked the match winner after the siren in a ‘Showdown’ last year, so look for more moments of brilliance from Dawson this weekend.
Playing game 100 this weekend, Connor Rozee continues to improve each season. Playing as an inside midfielder, Rozee also finds a way to involve himself in the uncontested game and also hits the scoreboard on a regular basis, kicking nine goals across the last month.
