Adelaide v Hawthorn R20 match preview
Hawthorn will be looking to extend their excellent run of form when they face the Crows in the final game of AFL round 20 on Sunday at Adelaide Oval.
Two sides in terrific form, it is no surprise to see AFL bookmakers are expecting a close game. The Hawks are slight favourites at $1.89 with BoomBet, while the Crows are $2.02 with Bet365. The line is set at 1.5 points.
Last Friday night, Adelaide secured their third win in four weeks as they beat Essendon by two points at Marvel Stadium. In a high-scoring affair, the Crows trailed by as much as 16 points in the final term before storming home with the last three goals of the game. Forward Ben Keays led the way with five goals and 22 disposals, while Darcy Fogarty and Josh Rachele kicked seven majors between them.
Despite sitting in 14th, the Crows have been dangerous this season, with wins over current top-eight sides Carlton, GWS, Port Adelaide and Essendon. At home, they will be looking to halt another finals charge.
Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks has been forced to make plenty of changes, as skipper Jordan Dawson (concussion) and key defensive pair Jordon Butts (foot) and Nick Murray (knee) have been ruled out. Key forward Taylor Walker headlines the inclusions, with James Borlase and Josh Worrell expected to cover in defence.
Hawthorn secured their most impressive win of the season last Saturday, beating Collingwood by 66 points at the MCG. In a dominant attacking display, the Hawks kicked a season-high 133 points and won every quarter. Former Magpie Jack Ginnivan was excellent with 31 disposals and two goals, while Connor Macdonald and Luke Bruest each added four goals.
Since round eight, Sam Mitchell’s men have been one of the best in the AFL, winning nine of their last 11 matches. Now sitting 11th on the ladder, online bookmakers give them odds of $2.10 to make the top eight.
Harry Morrison, Jack Gunston and Cam Mackenzie have all been added to the extended squad, but don’t expect many changes for the Hawks as they stick with a winning formula.

Adelaide v Hawthorn betting tips & strategy
Given both sides’ recent form, this looks set to be a close game. However, the Hawks stand out in this clash given they are fighting for a top-eight spot. They have won four of the last six matchups between the sides and offer great value at $1.89 with BoomBet.
Leading the way for the Crows in 2024 with 31 goals, key forward Darcy Fogarty has been in career-best form. Since round eight, the 24-year-old is averaging 2.5 goals per game and has failed to kick multiples on just one occasion. Facing an undersized Hawthorn defence, back Fogarty to have a big day with three or more goals at $2.85 with Neds.
Right in the mix for an All-Australian spot, Hawthorn small forward Dylan Moore has continued to improve in 2024. Leading the way with 27 goals this season, the Hawks’ vice-captain has kicked multiples on seven occasions. Moore booted five majors when these sides met in round 12, so back him in for another strong performance with two or more goals at $1.90.
