Adelaide v GWS R16 match preview
Round 16 of the 2024 AFL season continues on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval, where the GWS Giants will look continue their finals push with a win over the struggling Crows.
Despite playing away from home, the Giants are slight favourites for this clash at $1.81 with PlayUp, while the Crows are at $2.02 with Bet365. The line is set at just 2.5 points.
The week before their bye in round 15, Adelaide fell to the Sydney Swans by 42 points. Leading by 23 points midway through the second quarter, the Crows then conceded 13 of the next 16 goals in a terrible second-half performance.
Sitting in 15th on the AFL ladder, it has been a disappointing season for Matthew Nicks’ side. With finals out of the equation, Adelaide will already be looking ahead to 2025.
Expect plenty of changes for the Crows this week as Taylor Walker, Brodie Smith and Elliott Himmelberg all return from injury. Ruckman Reilly O’Brien is also expected to return in place of the struggling Kieran Strachan.
Last Saturday, the Giants also faced the Swans, going down by 27 points in tough conditions at ENGIE Stadium. After an even first quarter, the Giants conceded 10 straight goals through the second and third terms to put the result beyond doubt. Despite a late five-goal run of their own, Adam Kingsley’s men were well beaten on the day.
With that loss, the Giants have dropped to sixth on the ladder. But as they are just one game outside the top four, they offer some value for a top-four finish at $3 with leading AFL bookmakers.
While there are no forced changes for GWS, veteran midfielder Stephen Coniglio and defender Harry Perryman are possible inclusions if they pass fitness tests during the week.

Adelaide Crows v GWS Giants betting predictions
At risk of dropping outside the top eight, there is a lot on the line for a Giants side that should have far too much quality. The Crows have lost each of their past three matches, while they’ve dropped their past four against the Giants by an average of 39 points. As such, back the visitors to get the job done as $1.81 favourites.
One clear positive for the Crows has been the form of half-back Mitch Hinge. With a career-high 33 disposals against the Swans, the former Lion excels in Adelaide’s short-kicking game and takes the majority of the kick-ins. With the ball expected to spend plenty of time in Adelaide’s defensive half, back Hinge to collect 30 or more disposals at $3 with top Australian bookmakers.
Coming off a 35-disposal effort last weekend, GWS midfielder Tom Green looks set for a big game against an undermanned Adelaide side. Ranked top 10 in the AFL for both disposals and contested possessions, Green has collected over 34 disposals on five occasions this season. He had 37 touches last time he faced the Crows, so back Green for 35 or more at $3.50 with leading AFL betting sites.
