A-League Round 9 preview, betting tips & top odds
The exciting 2023/24 A-League season continues this weekend with six matches of top-quality Australian football. Here are our top betting previews and tips for round 9 of the A-League Men season.
Brisbane Roar vs Central Coast Mariners
Thursday, December 21 – 6:45pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium
After their embarrassing defeat to the struggling Western United last weekend, the Brisbane Roar have lost their spot at the top of the table. Central Coast Mariners started the season poorly, but the defending champions are now undefeated in their last five matches. Recent history favours the Mariners, as they have won four of the past five matches between the sides.
Central Coast Mariners to win
Adelaide United vs Newcastle Jets
Friday, December 22 – 7:15pm ACST – Coopers Stadium
With their third loss in a row, Adelaide United have slid down to seventh place on the A-League table. Welcoming the eighth-placed Newcastle Jets this weekend, expect an improved performance from United in front of their home crowd. However, as the Reds have been held goalless in their last two matches, expect this one to be a low-scoring affair.
Under 2.5 goals
Wellington Phoenix vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday, December 23 – 5:30pm NZDT – Sky Stadium
Sitting top of the table, the Wellington Phoenix have surprised many this season — particularly in their impressive 3-0 win over Macarthur FC last weekend. They face another challenge this Saturday against the third-placed Western Sydney Wanderers, who have lost just once this season. These two teams drew 0-0 at the start of the season and boast the best defensive records in the A-League, so expect another low-scoring contest.
Under 2.5 goals
Sydney FC vs Western United
Saturday, December 23 – 5:30pm AEDT – Allianz Stadium
Two sides struggling for form have an excellent opportunity for points on Saturday afternoon as Sydney FC host Western United. After collecting a shock win last weekend against the Brisbane Roar, United will feel they can produce another upset as they travel to Sydney. However, with Western United’s terrible goalscoring record and Sydney FC having the home advantage, it is hard to see the visitors causing any trouble.
Sydney FC to win
Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory
Saturday, December 23 – 7:45pm AEDT – AAMI Park
The only remaining undefeated side, Melbourne Victory continued their excellent start to the season as they beat Sydney FC 3-0 last weekend. Melbourne City have also found form and now sit in sixth place, just five points behind Victory. However, City haven’t won any of their last four home matches and may struggle against the high-powered Victory attack.
Melbourne Victory to win
Perth Glory vs Macarthur FC
Saturday, December 23 – 7:30pm AWST – HBF Park
Sitting last on the table, Perth Glory are winless in their past five matches and have major concerns in both attack and defence. Although they were disappointing last weekend, Macarthur FC have been one of the most impressive sides in the A-League this season. Top soccer bookmakers are giving us good odds for the visitors, who should have too much quality in this matchup.
Macarthur FC to win
