A-League Round 9 betting preview & free soccer tips
The 2024/25 A-League season rolls on this weekend with six games, headlined by the Melbourne Derby on Saturday night. Below are BettingSite.com.au’s top tips for every match of Round 9.
Adelaide United vs Sydney FC
Friday, December 20 – 7:05pm ACDT – Coopers Stadium
Still undefeated and second on the A-League ladder, Adelaide United secured their most impressive win of the season last Friday as they beat the Mariners 4-0. Back at home, they should be too strong for Sydney FC, who have conceded six goals in the last two weeks.
Adelaide United win
Auckland FC vs Western United
Saturday, December 21 – 5pm NZDT – Go Media Stadium
In salvaging a draw against Melbourne City last Sunday, Auckland FC finally dropped some points. Back at home this week, they welcome a dangerous Western United, who are coming off a 4-3 win over Sydney FC. Despite their slight hiccup, Auckland remain comfortable favourites, so expect their league-leading defence to get back to their impenetrable best.
Auckland FC to win to nil
Brisbane Roar vs Perth Glory
Saturday, December 20 – 4pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium
In a clash between the A-League’s two bottom sides, both teams can earn their first win of the season. Brisbane enter as favourites, as they have drawn two of their last three games and have the home-ground advantage. Perth have the worst attacking and defensive records in the competition, so back the Roar to keep the clean sheet for some extra value at $2.75 with top soccer bookmakers.
Brisbane Roar to win to nil
Melbourne Victory vs Melbourne City
Saturday, December 21 – 7:35pm AEDT – AAMI Park
With just one defeat for the season so far, Victory enter this Melbourne Derby as slight favourites with leading A-League bookies. City are just behind them on the ladder, but their four wins have all come against sides in the bottom half of the table. Victory are undefeated in the past five meetings between the sides, but given City have been held goalless just once this season, backing this game to have plenty of goals should be the smarter bet.
Over 3.5 goals
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Wellington Phoenix
Sunday, December 22 – 5pm AEDT – CommBank Stadium
After suffering consecutive defeats, Wellington Phoenix are at risk of dropping out of the top six for the first time this season. They now face the unpredictable Wanderers, who have just one loss from their past four but drew with the 12th-placed Roar last Saturday. Wellington should be the stronger team, but given the Wanderers have scored at least two goals in their last five games, expect plenty of scoring.
Over 3.5 goals
Macarthur FC vs Central Coast Mariners
Monday, December 23 – 7pm AEDT – Campbelltown Sports Stadium
With just one loss in their last five games, Macarthur FC have worked their way into fifth place on the ladder. A key part of their success has been striker Valere Germain, who has four goals this season — including two in the last three weeks. The Mariners have conceded 12 goals in their last four games across all competitions, so back Germain to continue his scoring run.
