A-League Round 8 betting preview, free tips & best odds
The A-League season continues this weekend with an intriguing slate of six matches. See our betting preview and free tips for round eight of the 2023-24 A-League Men campaign.
Western United vs Brisbane Roar
Friday, December 15 – 6pm AEDT – AAMI Park
After losing 4-0 to the Central Coast Mariners last weekend, Western United have now lost six matches in a row and sit last on the table. Boasting the worst attack and defence in the A-League, there are now major concerns around their competitiveness. It won’t get any easier for them this weekend as they face the second-placed Brisbane Roar. Without drastic change, it’s hard to see an upset.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Adelaide United
Friday, December 15 – 7:45pm AEDT – CommBank Stadium
Following their first loss of the season in a high-scoring thriller with Melbourne Victory, Western Sydney Wanderers will be keen to bounce back against Adelaide United this weekend. While United have had no trouble hitting the scoreboard, they’ve had major concerns in defence — particularly after losing three of their last four matches. Wanderers should be too strong in what shapes as another high-scoring contest.
Western Sydney Wanderers to win
Newcastle Jets vs Perth Glory
Saturday, December 16 – 6pm AEDT – McDonald Jones Stadium
The Newcastle Jets will be full of confidence after their successful away trip against the previously undefeated Wellington Phoenix last weekend. The Jets will now be looking to get on a winning streak as they welcome the struggling Perth Glory. With four losses in a row, the Glory sit second last on the table. However, six of the last eight matches between the sides have ended in a draw and with the inconsistent form of both sides, look for this one to be close.

Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC
Saturday, December 16 – 7:45pm AEDT – AAMI Park
Headlining round eight is the ‘Big Blue’ on Saturday night as Melbourne Victory welcome Sydney FC to AAMI Park. Victory are undefeated this season, while Sydney FC have just six points and sit in 10th position. Traditionally, matches between these sides have always been close, with the results alternating over the past four encounters. Watch out for Victory striker Bruno Fornaroli, who scored his second four-goal haul of the season last weekend.

Melbourne City vs Central Coast Mariners
Sunday, December 17 – 5pm AEDT – AAMI Park
After their slow start to the season, the Central Coast Mariners have tallied seven points from their last three matches. This weekend they travel to face the in-form Melbourne City, who have two wins in their last two matches. The Mariners’ surge in form has coincided with a run of four consecutive home games, and given they have lost both away fixtures this season, the advantage is with City as they push their way up into the finals positions.
Melbourne City to win
Macarthur FC vs Wellington Phoenix
Monday, December 18 – 7pm AEDT – Campbelltown Sports Stadium
Sat on top of the A-League table, the undefeated Macarthur FC have been the surprise packet of the season so far. On Monday night they welcome the third-placed Wellington Phoenix, who suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend. Expect this to be a low-scoring affair between two of the best defences in the A-League. The home side has won four of the past five matchups between the pair, and Macarthur should be too strong on this occasion.
Macarthur to win
