A-League Round 5 betting preview, top tips & best odds
The A-League season continues this weekend with six matches of Australian top-flight football. Here are our match previews and free soccer betting tips for round five of the 2023-24 A-League Men campaign.
Macarthur FC vs Melbourne Victory
Friday, November 24 – 7:45pm AEDT – Campbelltown Sports Stadium
Two sides tied at the top of the table kick off round five as the Melbourne Victory head to Sydney to face Macarthur FC. Separated by only goal difference, this should be a thrilling clash between two undefeated teams. Victory will be keen to show their best after drawing their last two matches, while Macarthur will need to shore up their defence after their 3-3 result last round. All but one of the previous meetings between these two have gone over 2.5 goals, so expect a similar result here.
Over 2.5 total goals
Wellington Phoenix vs Melbourne City
Saturday, November 25 – 4:30pm NZDT – Go Media Stadium
Wellington Phoenix are undefeated this season, but this weekend presents as a danger game against a Melbourne City side that is rebuilding after a slow start to the campaign. Undefeated against the Phoenix since 2020, look for City to be too strong despite the away conditions. Keep an eye out for City striker Jamie Maclaren, who is coming off two goals against Macarthur FC last round and a hat-trick for Australia during the international break.

Central Coast Mariners vs Newcastle Jets
Saturday, November 25 – 5:30pm AEDT – Industree Group Stadium
The Central Coast Mariners have been the big disappointment of the season to date, scoring just two goals in four winless rounds. Travelling up the highway, the also-struggling Newcastle Jets will be looking to add a second win this campaign. The Mariners have dominated this matchup in recent years, and the defending champions should be good enough to snag their first win of the season.
Central Coast Mariners to win
Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday, November 25 – 7:45pm AEDT – Allianz Stadium
In the marquee match of the round, Sydney FC face Wanderers in the first Sydney derby of the season. Sitting top of the A-League table, Wanderers have had an excellent season so far, conceding just two goals. On the other hand, Sydney FC sit in 10th spot, but after a 5-1 win over Adelaide last round, they have shown that they can be one of the top teams in the A-League. Expect a tense match with limited opportunities in attack.
Under 2.5 total goals
Brisbane Roar vs Perth Glory
Sunday, November 26 – 2pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium
Coming off a win against the defending champions last round, the Roar should be full of confidence heading into this match against the struggling Perth Glory. With just five goals this campaign, the Glory need to find more avenues to goal if they are going to find any sort of form. The home side has won six of the last seven matches between these two side, and we are expecting that trend to continue.
Brisbane Roar to win
Western United vs Adelaide United
Sunday, November 26 – 5pm AEDT – Mars Stadium
Following their excellent start to the season, Adelaide United were brought crashing down to earth last round as they went down 5-1 to Sydney FC. Western United are also having some struggles of their own, losing each of their last three matches as they sit second-last on the table. Look for Adelaide to bounce back from their disappointing performance with a big away win.
