A-League Round 3 betting preview, top tips & predictions
The A-League continues this weekend with six matches of Australian top-flight football. See our top betting tips for round three of the 2023-24 A-League Men campaign.
Melbourne City vs Sydney FC
The two most disappointing sides of the season so far meet on Friday night as they both search for their first win of the season. Despite controlling the possession in each of their previous matches, Sydney FC still haven’t scored a goal this season. Melbourne City have only scored once but have conceded eight goals, most of which came in a 6-0 defeat to Adelaide United last week. With both sides needing a win, expect this match to be a tight contest.

Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane Roar
Two undefeated sides face each other this weekend as the Roar travel across to New Zealand. Both winners last week, they will be looking to keep their hot start to the campaign going after both were disappointing last season. Historically, the Roar have struggled with the trip, with their last win in Wellington coming back in 2017. Look for the Phoenix to be too strong.
Wellington Phoenix to win
Macarthur FC vs Western United
After a 5-0 defeat to Wanderers last weekend, Western United need to bounce back this weekend against an undefeated Macarthur FC. With all five goals coming in the first half, look for Western United to come out strong against a Macarthur side that saluted last week after an 84th-minute winner. There is good value in Western United as the away side to bounce back this weekend.
Western United to win
Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United
It’s first versus second as Melbourne Victory face Adelaide United in the match of the round. Scoring nine and conceding none so far this season, Adelaide look like the side to beat this season. The Victory have also been very good, but there are some concerns around their defence after their 5-3 win last weekend. Victory forward Bruno Fornaroli is the danger man in this clash after scoring four goals in the first half last weekend.

Perth Glory vs Central Coast Mariners
Another pair of disappointing sides face off as the eighth-placed Glory take on the 10th-placed Mariners. The defending champions could not have had a worse start to their campaign, losing both of their matches so far. After finishing bottom of the table in last year’s campaign, the Glory have looked better but still have only one point so far. Looking at an upset, Perth will be confident of a result with home-field advantage.
Perth Glory to win
Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Following their 5-0 win last weekend, Wanderers will be full of confidence going into this weekend as they face the leaky Newcastle Jets. Despite scoring five goals already this season, the Jets’ out-of-sorts defence has conceded seven. Wanderers still haven’t conceded a goal this season and will be confident of getting a result on the road.
